advice needed please =[ im so lost.

I think in the UK the guidelines are different for making formula but you really won't go wrong by boiling tap water, letting it cool for 30 mins then making the formula. I make a days worth at once, but I know official guidelines state to make as needed, but my LO will not wait 30 mins for it to cool! I make them, sit them in cold water to rapid cool them then bung them in the fridge and re-heat as needed. Once a bottle has been re-heated, it can only be used for 2 hours and pre made formula must only be kept for 24h.
As for the brand, I've never heard about sticking wi the same base, but again that could just be a US/UK thing. You can use whatever you like, but bear in mind that your LO might not agree with every formula and it can take a few weeks to get used to a different brand.

Hope that helps :)

Sound advice XMicelleX!!! I used to do the same! Boil a whole kettle and let it cool, transfer to the bottles and put them in the fridge and use as needed. Stan would never drink it warmed up so cold or room temp was perfect.

I also had the Tommee tipee bottles, so they had the plastic inserts to separate formula powder from water till you are ready to mix up. Brill for day trips out and about, quick and easy.

Formula wise in the UK we have a few choices but not too many to get too confused with. I have heard the !once you choose a formula you should stick with it" but I started Stan on "Cow and gate" when he was born and switched to "Aptamil" after a couple of weeks with no troubles at all but all babies are different. I still use Aptamil now and he's 26 months old now and doing great.

As far as I know all the formulas that are available are specially formulated to be the best they can for your baby. So aside from being milk or soya based, Which is good to know if you have a baby that is lactose intolerant or not, they are all pretty good here in the UK.

Don't worry you will make the right choices for you and your lovely bubby even if it takes a while to decide which one to use!

You can switch hun, but once you find one (in assuming you want something more afforadable?) he likes stick with it. If you don't need to switch then don't because it can cause a little bit of unneeded adjusting. The store generics meet the same quality standards as the name brands and they will state which name brand version they are most similar to. With my boys I used nursery water and never boiled it and plan on doing the same thing this time. For night feeds I kept bottles pre filled with the nursery water in the bedroom and pre filled a formula dispenser. They enjoyed their formula at room temperature so it worked out well. For this baby I did buy a bottle warmer in case she wants hers warm but plan on using the same approach as I did 12 years ago! It was quick & easy and we never had a problem. Good luck :)

Hi

You shouldn't use bottled water as the minerals can be too much (especially as it might have salt in it that could damage babies kidneys) boiled tap water or nursery water would be fine x

i dont think it matters about switching the milk, dont worry about it :)

you shouldn't use bottled water for making up the bottles - tap water that has been boiled is best.

dont beat yourself up over bf'eeding :) when your child is older you will barely think about if they were bottle or breastfed - just focus on the bigger picture, happy mum and child :)

thanks ladies, ive been boiling bottled water =[ now i feel bad. i hope its okay. yes i am lookign to switch just to sometihng more affordable.

Get clean bottle, add desired amount of water from tap, add formula scoops, shake and serve. if you are wanting to save money you might consider a store brand. Targets is nice.

i am thinking of parents choice from walmart. i read good reviews on it and i shop at walmart all the time

lol, they sell bottled water gallons called nursey water. made for formula. idk if its just around me they do it

Our tap water in the US has added flouride and depending on where you live the amount can vary and some city water supplies can have too much for a baby. You can have a sample of your water tested of course, or you can just use nursery water. I personally get the Babies R Us brand and it's $.99 a gallon. Nursery water is distilled and then the right amount of minerals are added back in.

As far as switching, it's fine that you did, but you don't want to keep switching. If you don't want to continue to use Similac and prefer a different brand, that's fine, but then stick with that one only.

thank you. my pediatrician told me bottled water is fine

Typically bottled water is just filtered (like if you ran your tap water through a Brita filter) and in general it's ok, but I've tasted some bottled water that tasted like plastic really badly though, ya know? Smart Water is the one I'll use if I'm in a pinch (it's the bottled water I grab for myself to drink too if I'm out).

oh right lol!!! I guess things are different in the US then! (im in the uk). We are told over here not to use soy based formulas especially with boys as it can cause infertility x

Wow really ?? Ive never heard that about soy formula. I have been using poland springs water. The tap where i am tastes awful. Id not feel right using it
