......please don't all laugh at me!!

This will be the first child I've had, and the same for my OH. Neither of us have our mothers around anymore, so I don't know who to ask for advice!

Now, I'm sure I can work out how to actually put the items of clothing on our LO, the advice I'm after is things like......how many layers to dress her in?......should she always have some kind of hat on?.....how many layers should she have on when she goes down for the night?

God, I must sound so clueless!! So I'm hoping someone can help me out please??

It depends on the temperature. My health nurse adviced me that it is better to have baby a little cooler than hotter. Overheating babe increases the ris of sids. For sleeping anyways. In the summer, my girl was in a onesie to sleep, with a light receiving blanket, now that it is winter, she is dressed in a warm sleeper, and I swaddle her in a fleece swaddle me.

For daytime. I think I read that in cold, they should have one one more layer than you, and in the summer, same number of layers as you. Hope that helps!

In the daytime jacob has a vest, trousers t-shirt jumper and socks on when in the house, When we go out i put him dressed like that inside his pram suit :) Sometime if the heating is on he will only have a long sleeve t-shirt on.

At night when he goes down to sleep he has a vest socks and sleepsuit on and scratch mittens as he claws his face (and i put socks on as i hate the thought of him having cold feet) Then i put a blanket over him.

Best bit of advice is buy a room thermoemetor and if its between 16-20 degrees he only needs one blanket on top of his clothes when he sleeps :)

And as for a hat he only wears one when he goes outside (always) and as soon as he goes inside i take it off him :)

Hope this helps XxX

Byron has only worn vests and sleepsuits so far; we've not bothered with any 'real' clothes. We've got quite a few 0-3months outfits but he's too small for them yet. In the day we put a cardi on him when he's up and about or he will be swaddled in blankets when asleep. At night likewise. For going out he's been in warm all-in-one suits with hats and gloves (if they fit) and a blanket if he's in the pram. You're not supposed to ever cover babies' heads indoors as they need to be able to lose heat from their heads so as not to get too hot.

Caitlyn wears a Vest and sleep suit for bed. With a gro bag and a blanket.

In the day she has a Vest, Trousers, Tshirt. Or Dress and tights. For going out she has a hat on, mittens, and a snow suit.

They say to put on one more layer then you have, but I just go with what I think my LO ill need. She tends to get hot easily, we have one of those warm bundle me's for the winter and she's allays hot and sweaty when we take her out, even if she's just got one layer on. since we took that out of the car seat until it gets colder, we put her in a onesie or bodysuit and a warm fleece bodysuit on with a cotton blanket which she usually just ends up kicking off, and we always have to unzip the fleece body. So just wait and see, if your LO feels too warm to the touch, take off a layer, if they feel cool to the touch, add a layer or put on sox. You'll learn through experience, good luck ^_^

I think sleeping bags/ grobags are really good for night time (but some of them are too big for a newborn.)

Also all-in-one pramsuit for out in the pram. I put the hood up and don't wear a hat on my baby, he doesn't seem to like hats but he has a lot of hair so that may be why.

when callum was tiny he went to bed with just a sleepsuit on, he really suffers with the heat and gets too hot really quickly.

Do you have a room thermometer? I have a digital one and it came with 'instructions' if thats what you'd call them.. For what baby should be wearing and how many blankets according to the temp. You should never put a hat on baby indoors though, Only when going out but as soon as you enter a building take it off!

my apartment is always really warm... so when we're home Jordyn is normally in a long sleeved onesie... for days when i cant stand the heat in here and have to open a window, i'll put her in a full sleeper..
When we go out, ( i live in nova scotia, canada so its pretty freaking cold..) I put her in a heavy fleece sleeper, with a heavy sweater or coat, and a hat.... and a blanket over her as well... for days when i think we'll out in the cold longer i'll put her ina fleece snowsuit with a hat... most of the time we're house to car, car to store, store to house.. so she not in the cold for extended periods.

but i kinda go with her flow... babies can be different, Jordyn doesnt like being too warm she like having her legs bare when we're inside... and she doesnt like sleeping swaddled. just a blanket over her. learning how to dress your babe comes with time... I was CLUELESS when Jordyn was born... i had never diapered.. dressed or really had alot of time around newborn... i was petrified, but i figured it out!
goodluck!

The best advice I received was put on one more layer than what your wearing...
