Advice on LO

Hi all...

I am really enjoying time with my little one but am getting a little confused about a few things now she is 1 month old...

How often should she be feeding now? And how much? I am breast feeding & topping her up with formula..

Also how much should she sleep now? This past week she hasnt slept much during the day, maybe half an hour here & there... but at night she can sleep for over 3 hours but I try & wake her up at this stage for feed & nappy change....

She should be on the breast every few hours 2-4 or so... probably still taking 30 minutes at a feed, and feeding 8-12 times a day. Wet/dirty diapers, activity and general good well being will tell you if she's doing well.

She should be eating 2-4 ounces at a feed... if she's smaller, she'll be closer to that 2oz mark... bigger babies eat more.

She should be sleeping a lot more during the day 5-7 hours total, and up to 10 hours at night.

I would not be waking her for feeds and nappy changes. Allow her to cycle through sleep normally. A rested baby sleeps better than one that is not rested.

I've often had people tell me to keep LO awake so she'll sleep better... Little do they know that an overtired, overstimulated baby sleeps a lot worse than one that gets regular sleep.

Try getting her to nap every 2-3 hours between te hours of 7am and 8pm... After 8pm she should be sleeping 3-5 hours in a shot, waking up 2-3 times.
