So I've posted a few times about DD1 not settling in reception

We've had random vomiting out of the blue after eating her dinner at home . She basically just vomits it all back ! ( suspected she wasn't eating enough in school . So it happened again last week . Then she caught a bug on Friday and went back to school today with a packed lunch .

Explained all this to the teaching assistant who replied we don't like putting them on packed lunches through the term (there's 4 days left) I said well it's gotta be like this because I can't have her I'll from not eating(first thing that peed me off ) she sorted just accepted this . Then I was walking away and I heard her talk to my DD something along the lines of "if your having a packed lunch you need to tell me " ! Now I'm really pissed ! I turn back and say excuse me Mrs she will be having a packed lunch for the foreseeable future . I am so mad as I type this .

I've told explained the whole situation there was no need to invole DD in the conversation especially as I was walking away ! She's 4 for god sake. I as her mother have just told you . Totally unnecessary to ask her !

I've had a few issues with this teacher assistant in the last few weeks anyway . Would you speak to the teacher in charge or take it further via the headmaster after half term ?! .

I am due to pick her up at three . Any advice before I blow my lid at this woman !!

Maybe I'm missing something, did she say she couldn't have the packed lunch to your dd? otherwise I don't see the problem in her talking to her about it...
At my son's school they like to encourage independence and so even if a parent has said something they discuss it with the child and with packed lunches they like the child to be involved in the responsibility of this so ask them to tell them if they're bringing it in so the lunch gets put safely and not either lost/eaten by someone else etc. So it's standard at my son's school that kids in infants at least tell either the teacher or teaching assistant they've got lunch and then it gets stored safely...

Her speaking to your daughter but for the purpose of you hearing would really have pissed me off!

It wasn't what she actually said it . It how she said it really harsh and nasty . DDs had a few issues and in our school conversations are kept between teacher and parent until they are a little bit older although we do have open discussions at home .

.

She defiantly knew I would her what she was saying! Was like she was annoyed I never followed protocol and waited until the start of the new term to switch her over . I dunno

I should also add while she was talking to my DD she was violently pointing and waving her finger at her

Maybe cause we have all been ill the last few days and I am knackered hasn't helped lol !
Thanks for your replies ladies x

That would be highly frustrating. I would certainly consider speaking with the teacher in charge. I think you handled it extremely well, though. Let us know how it went!

Thanks all I was going to let it go until I walked upto the door and I just couldn't help myself . Spoke to the teacher in charge and explained the situation . She said it was totally unacceptable given how DD has settled in ! She assured me she would speak to the teacher . Next day teacher was overly nice and said she meant nothing by it but could see why it frustrated me . Had a long chat with her so hopefully were on the same page

Half term is finally here and DD1 came home with almost an empty packed lunch bag so win win for me !! Very happy !! X

Agree with pp - I would encourage a child in my class to be independent and know they are having a packed lunch. Sometimes if children are having a packed lunch when they don’t usually a mix up can happen and a child goes with no lunch.

Glad it is all sorted though and she’s eaten well

We did have a talk with her at home about a packed lunch and the importance of eating well in school.

All is well that ends well I suppose it's a learning curve for us both !
Thanks ladies x

A child goes with no lunch?! How on earth can a child go with no lunch and an adult not notice?!

Because the lunch time supervisors have it on their list that set children are having packed lunches not hot school meals, then on random days the parents send no lunch in and just expect everybody in school to know that that particular day their child is having a hot lunch. The children don’t get their hot meal at lunch time and then don’t say anything until they get home. The children need to be encouraged to say when they are having a packed lunch so teachers/lunch time staff know and this situation doesn’t happen

Not sure what it's like in other schools but ours they have two lines going into the dinner centre . One packed lunch and one hot dinners / grab and go. The children are expected to get into the correct line. Two teaching assistant go with DDs class and stay with them until they have finished lunch and go out to play as well as dinner ladies being there.

The teacher called me back the other day as she thought DD didn't have a packed lunch as apparently they all get put on a stand ready for the children to collect on way to their lines . In DDs case I'm sure they would notice no packed lunch but could see how confusion could happen x

Does nobody realise that a child is sat with no lunch? I just find it very bizarre. I have on 2 occassions forgot to order a hot dinner and school have rang me and we sorted it. They have a list and check in the morning that everyone that hasnt ordered a hot dinner has a packed lunch. A child with no lunch would never go un noticed because the dinner ladies are constantly around the tables, im just really surprised to hear that it happens. Id be devastated if i thought an oversight on my part had meant my kids were sat hungry all day.
Sorry this has gone totally off topic.

The children aren’t sat there with no lunch that would never happen they just don’t join the correct line or come in when called and then they don’t say ‘I haven’t eaten today’
