Hi Ladies,

I dont come in this section (im 32), but thought some of you ladies might have some advice.

Basically at my 20 week scan i had a soft marker (increased nuchal fold) which was 7.2mm as opposed to the maximum being 6mm. We met with the consultant afterwards who told me that the results were very vague but they have to tell me that it could be a sign for a chromosome abnormality.

We didnt have any testing done at 12 weeks (to be honest, i didnt even give it a second thought).

We declined the amnio (due to a previous 23 week loss) and was told to go back for another scan on Tuesday. We went back on Tuesday and she measured the fold to be 4.7mm, well within range, she said she wouldnt even comment on it if it was that size at 20 weeks.

They did all her measurements and she is measuring on the top end of the growth chart, her heart is fine and everything else is fine, it was just the incrased fold that has worried me.

I promised OH that if the fold was smaller i would stop worrying but i havent.

Have any of you ladies had an increased fold and gone onto have healthy babies or a clear amnio?

Thanks xx

I have been told that by 20wks, the nuchal fold test is unreliable, useless, etc., as by that stage, the parameters have shifted, e.g. the over 6mm is only used for wk12 NT/blood work and is not used for later tests.

I think the person who originally worried you was completely unprofessional! and wrong! (and sorry for the !, but by 20wks, the NT criteria cannot be used to determine anything!)

Try not to worry too much....

best wishes

At 12 weeks, my baby's NT measurement was 2.5mm, which is considered normal. At 20 weeks, it was 4.1mm, and the only reason I know this is because I happened to have seen it on the screen. They never mentioned it to me as anything they were concerned about....so I think you're baby is likely fine, hun...:hugs:
