So my DS (5) started school on Friday and today was his first full day at school followed by after school club as I work 3 days a week. I wanted to finish work a few hours earlier this week so as to avoid the after school club but I'm not able to because of a very intense workload/meetings. So, not ideal. We had made a visit to the club before the summer break and he appeared to love playing with his friends. I picked him up today and they told me that he was really upset at first but that he was given lots of one on one time by the one of the workers and he was fine after that. When I got there he was sat playing a game with him. None of his friends were there today which made a big difference I think.

Anyway, he's saying he doesn't want to go back and keeps asking me to pick him up at 3.15. I really really wish I could but it's just not possible. I can't reduce my hours further and I am absolutely overloaded with work in a very demanding job with an unsympathetic manager. I'm hoping that he will settle especially when his friends start going but how do I support him in the mean time? I feel so guilty. 😭

It's shit being a parent sometimes... one of my girls was like this and I always spoke to her about the positive smiling about the play she'd have, making friends is exciting etc Megan actually became one of the most welcoming friendly kids there always ready to help and 'look after' the new children.

We just have to do what we have to, don't feel guilty.... they are learning to socialise and be in different environments in the long run I think it's healthy for them.

My hearts always been weak inside but on the outside I think I've always been that tough Mummy and never let them cling to me... now they love socialising to the point the girls hug other people to death haha!
