Sorry this is off topic! But I'm so freaked out, need to vent because no one else cares :haha:

So just causally changing DD's nappy and getting her ready for bed I put her down on the floor standing up and she starts staring at the floor really weirdly and backing away ... So I'm like, that's strange ... I look and there is a MAHOOOSIVE centipede! DD started crying as it was running towards her cot so I ran to get some tissue to pick it up... I got it and it was still wriggling around (sorry to those who don't agree with this but...) I was so freaked out I flushed it down the toliet ...

Now I can't stop freaking out and googling centipedes ... And keep jumping up and making bump area sore by freaking thinking something is crawling on me!!!

Ahhhhh, so freaked out! Anyone know anything about centipedes? I mean... Are they supposed to be in your house?

One freaked out preggo lady here right now. I already wake up every hour or so at night needing to pee now I'll be waking up to inspect everywhere !!

Usually harmless but like more humid areas. Some can bite. Just keep an eye out. No need to be anxious. :)

How can I keep an eye out when I'm sleeping?! What if it crawls on my face :haha: so freaked out!!

I woke up and looked at the ceiling a few days ago and there was a centipede up there. I freaked out and made my husband wake up to kill it. I can't reach the ceiling so he had to do it. This one was fairly small compared to some I've seen but still disgusting. I really hate them, but they are pretty common here especially living out in the country.

I live in the Caribbean and we have some big old centipedes down here. Not sure how big the one you saw was but our bigger ones are almost 10 inches long. Their bites are really painful and can cause serious swelling around the bitten area (in adults). I'm glad your DD didn't get bitten as it probably would've been quite painful for her. They're not meant to be in your house. Ours are outside but sometimes get inside. Whenever we see them we kill them by spraying insecticide or hitting them with a shoe or something. Taking them up with a tissue can be tricky because they can still find a way tobite you once their stingers are free.

You can try spraying the hidden/dark areas of your home with bug spray, maybe? Make sure the roon is well ventilated and you may also wish your DD to be elsewhere when you spray

I don't think you, get such large or dangerous centipedes in the UK, I think they're generally pretty harmless.

Thanks ladies ... I don't think it was very harmful ... But after all my googling I have seen how crazy some of them can be! Like like you mention in the Caribbean! I was just freaked out because i live in a flat on the third floor and it was just weird seeing one crawling across the floor!!

I had one a long time ago in my house. I totally freaked out. THey are scary looking! It's the only one I ever saw and I think it may have come in a box because I had recently had stuff delivered. Never saw another one, so it may very well be that you just got one in the house from something!

Did it look like the one here? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scutigera_coleoptrata

If so, that's a house centipede, and yes it lives in houses! Gross and scary, even though they're usually not that big.
