Going to try and write this now before it becomes even more blurry.
Alasdhair was born on the 28th of june at 12.02am, 2 minutes after he turned 32 weeks. He was 4lb 1oz and 16in long.
Bit of back story, I have 4 other preemies, 2 at 35 weeks, 33 weeker and 32 weeker so was already a high risk pregnancy but very monitored. At 12+2 I had a massive bleed and it was found to be a huge subchorionic hematoma lifting the edge of his placenta and at this point I was put on bedrest. Complete nightmare with 4 other kids We had to get a nanny
Cue weeks of heavy bleeding and regular trips to my OB and perinatology to monitor everything, he was given very poor odds to make it with the hematoma being so big and my cervix shortening early. We started progesterone shots again at 16 weeks and was on and off nifedipine for contraction for weeks 19 until 26. At 23 weeks I had the steroid shots as he was anticipated very early.
At 26 weeks my placenta abrupted more and I had almost a week in hospital and another set of steroids, again somehow he made it through and we did get home!
At 31 weeks I had a watery red bleed and then my waters went all over hubbys feet Straight off to labor and delivery but despite the waters going and already being 2-3cm dilated my little guy stayed in for a whole week!! We had antibiotics the entire time and only complaint would be the IVs kept blowing, it was incredible! Had a lovely big room with plenty space for hubby and some amazing nurses.
On the thursday, 27th around midday I started with cramping every 5-10 mins and the monitor was picking up regular contractions so we got onto the mag sulphate drip for his neuroprotection. This did soften the contractions at first but by 6pm they were back and strong. However by 10 they were definately not feeling right, hard to describe but they were too strong and too localised and his heartrate was starting to drop with each contraction. I was adamant to the nurse it wasnt going right and she needed to call my OB right then instead of waiting and checking for my cervix dilating more because it wasnt changing and I had a very strong feeling it was going very wrong. Thankfully she listened because by the time by OB arrived it was progressing to a ripping feeling and he was having significant decelerations so we went straight into the OR for an emergency c section. I really really didnt want a section (have had 3 vaginal births and 1 section for a preavia and its def not the easy option!) I had a full abruption and I and my little guy were so lucky to be right next to the OR and to have a doctor who listened and the knowledge from 4 other labours to know when its not going right He came out crying I had to be there for awhile while they sorted out the bleeding and the mess in my uterus and I have a massive incision but would do it all over again a million times for him.
He's in NICU and fighting his way, he's off his ventilator and CPAP and is managing to maintain temp He's having issues feeding but its not stopping him being a ratbag, he got his diaper off 2 days into his stay and is never where his nurses leave him in his incubator
