I'm just wondering if anyone is still having the odd alcoholic drink?

I've not had any alcohol yet but i've so been craving a glass of wine or blue WKD!

Would it be the worst thing in the world? Is anyone else still having the odd drink?

Thanks =D

I haven't touched alcohol since I got my positive, but these last few days I've been craving a drink!! Vodka and cranberry juice (the juice is another separate craving), or a nice cold glass of wine..... :nope: Won't do it though!! I've just never been one to even have a drink when pregnant.

In the uk 1-2 units per week is said to be ok.
I just don't want to drink but that's my preference.

Probably one drink wouldn't cause any harm. However, what if it did? Would you be able to handle knowing that the one drink you had caused problems? I don't think I would risk it. I'm pretty sure its safer after the first trimester, but even then I don't think I would do it. In the US, doctors are pretty anti-alcohol while you're pregnant. I so think of the fact that my grandma drank while she was pregnant with my mom and aunt and they're both okay.

Personally I won't touch a drink while I am pregnant, no one knows how it affects each person and their baby so I just don't want to take a rick however small. although in saying that I actually have no desire for it. I loved my wine but the though of a glass now makes me feel kinda sick!

The closest I have gotten to alcohol has only been staring intently at OH while he is drinking a glass of wine. There are some ok tasting non alcoholic beers out there, but the N/A wine is pretty nasty. I'm a big red wine fan as well as the rest of my family, but going 9 months without is totally worth a beautiful baby in the end.

On another note though, my SIL is Australian, and down there they allow one glass of wine per week once you have entered the second tri. Thought that was interesting...

I have known people drink while not knowing that they are pregnant (and I mean drink alot) and everythin be ok.....

As long as its not an everyday thing then having a drink or 2 is fine its no worse than eating takeaways 4-5timea a week during pregnancy.....

I haven't had a drink while pregnant (did with ds during Xmas but was sick after the first sip lol)

But it won't hurt ur baby having a drink and wkds are mostly pop anyway xx

I wouldn't risk it in the first tri at all tbh. Of course in they say 1-2 units are ok in the UK a week but I don't think this early on would be a good idea.

one drink wont do any harm and once i get the all clear from my 12 wk scan i will probably have one , i drank a glass of red wine every 7-10 days from second tri onwards with both ds1 and ds2 and they are perfect

people will likely jump on me for saying it but the risk comes from drinking more than a sensibile amount when pregant ie.. if your still legal to drive then your ok its when women go out on benders everyweekend that they end up with babies with problems,

I think it's a good idea to wait til after the first trimester as well while baby is developing, don't want bubs to have an arm growing out of his head! I'll just need to stick to my lime cordial til then, maybe I can make some non alcoholic cocktails.. that's an idea! xx

I agree with Lynnikins,

I have had the odd glass of wine and don't see the harm in it. I had half a glass of cava to taost my pregnancy with relatives, one glass at home with the OH I really enjoyed but another time I wasn't in the mood for so my OH ended up drinking it.

Last time I was pregnant (14 years ago) I never touched a drop but this time (being older and more of a connoisseur) I miss it, so have allowed myself the odd glass. My motto is everything (be sensible!) in moderation.

Thats just my opinion tho, go with whatever you feel comfortable. Xxx

Thanks Tizy, you're right i'm sure everything in moderation should be ok! =) xx

a lot of people dont find out straight away they're pregnant and drink. I only drank once during that unknown time and since then have had just one glass of wine two weeks ago as it was a special occasion! I wouldn't make a habit of it. And i dont even miss it.

I've been pregnant and been super good and it all go wrong... this time I have had a shandy twice while out for lunch! Not very exciting but still. I have also had prawns and even a tiny bit of brie! With my son I ate brie throughout - I honestly didn't know I wasn't meant to and it was a major craving so I didn't even eat it in moderation lol. But seriously, I think most things are ok if you are careful. If the worse is to happen then I firmly believe it'll sadly happen regardless. xx

I would never touch alcohol!!! I'm breast feeding dd anyway.
I just think if something was to happen to baby I would always blame myself even if it wasn't alcohol related Iygwim?

I know what you mean but I am long passed blaming myself if anything was to go wrong - had far too much go wrong in my 26 years on this earth lol that if I went blaming myself then I'd be rather depressed! If I have half a shandy (so roughly 100ml of 4% lager) then go on to miscarry I really am not going to blame my choice to have that shandy, it would be ridiculous to think that would be the reason when really it would be down to a problem with the development of the fetus out of our control. Or atleast that is my take on it :)

im past blaming myself for things not working out this is pregnancy number 6 for me and the failed ones they cant give me a reason why ( cept one i know why and it wasnt alcohol related ) and i didnt drink , smoke or eat anything bad with any of the failed pregnacies ive had if i blamed myself i wouldnt have had ds1 or ds2 caus i wouldnt have let myself get pregnant again if i thought it was something i did that caused the MC

If there is one thing I can't stand is drinking any alcohol during pregnancy, I feel really strongly about it, it's 9 months out of a persons life to be 100% selfless.... I just don't get it, but that's my opinion of course ;)

I havent touched a drop since i got my bfp and i wont touch it through whole pregnancy I am not even craving it

I had a mimosa at 10 weeks. Only drink so far, but I will have a glass of wine or a beer here and there. My doctor says that's fine and I don't have any concern about causing damage with just one
