Hi gang! Thanks for all of your posts on the name Alec...some people questioned why/how its a nickname for Alexander...here in Scotland, Alec has been a long time, sort of old fashioned well used nick name for Alexander....dont know why, just is! Using Alex (with the x) is kind of a newer thing.

So, in America (my home) Alec is kind of newer, trendier, maybe, whereas in the UK and Scotland, particulalry (where I live now), Alec is more classic/old fashioned.

Keep the comments coming! Loving it!

we like alexander but we will call him xander for short xx

i think of Alec as a full name in its own right and not short for anything?? i like it though

I like giving children the full name and shortening to the diminutive. Alexander is great because it can be Alex, Alex, Al, Sandy, Alec, Xander etc.

I prefer Alex... or Xander... but i think Alec can easily by used as a nn for Alexander. I can't imagine why that would confuse anyone....
