I wish I was typing this from home instead of a hospital bed...We are still in the hospital because my new born daughter has jaundice. I was so hoping to have been taking her home on Saturday, but she has now had to spend 2 days under the UV lights. I am praying her blood work comes back ok in the morning and I can finally take her home! In any event here is her birth story...
Alicia was born on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at 10:03pm. I started my induction on Jan. 2nd at 7am. I was only 1cm dilated when I arrived so they started me on cervidel to ripen my cervix. They took it out at 9pm that night and I was 2 almost 3cm. The OB said they would let me rest over night and check the following morning. The following day I was almost 3cm. They started me on pitocin I think around 8am ish. By 2pm I was in excruciating pain from contractions. An hour later I was getting the epidural. Within 10 minutes I had relief. However....the delivery was not at all what I expected with having an epidural. I thought "oh I will just feel a little pressure and that will be it" WRONG!!!!! That pressure felt like someone stuck a piece of dynamite into my butt and let it explode. I was fine with the epidural until about 7:30pm ish. Then the pressure in my butt started like I had to take a huge poo. About 9pm the nurse said it was time to practice pushing. The Ob didnt come in until the very end as her head was crowning. The pushing was unbearable. I pushed for about an hour. The only good thing about having the epidural at that point is that I did not feel the tearing when her shoulder tore me almost to my rectum. I had a 3rd degree tear and the Dr would not even tell me how many stitches it took to sew me up. I honestly thought I was going to die...
Now, with all that said, you know how they say the minute they lay your baby on your chest all the pain disappears? That is 100% without a doubt true
I will never forget looking into my child's face for the first time and her looking right into my eyes and I knew she knew exactly who I was. I held her while the OB stitched me up then they took her to be weighed. At 39weeks 1day Alicia was 8.2 pounds and 20 inches long. She is my first and I was induced due to Gestational Diabetes. I have never felt such amazing overwhelming love and I dont even know how to describe it.
It is very hard having to see her in incubator with these goggles on when all I want to do is hold her every minute. Its heartbreaking watching them draw blood from her tiny heal I cant stand it. I pray to God I am able to take her home tomorrow. Good luck to all you ladies who are waiting to deliver. Right now this new momma needs to go feed her baby and get some sleep
