Ollie has reflux and is on Gaviscon for it. The problem is I'm wondering if it's actually an allergy and not reflux so wondering if anyone can help me here.

Right to start with my OH had an allergy to milk so had to have soya milk as a baby. Also he had excema.

Ollie is still being sick alot despite him being on Gaviscon. It did seem to improve but lately it's getting bad again. Sometimes when he feeds he arches his back and cries in pain. He also has developed excema.

I went to the docs about it last week and the doc said it's colic and to keep him on gaviscon. Faith had colic so I know that this isn't what Ollie has got and my instinct is saying allergy.

What do you think? Allergy or Reflux??? x

Edited to add: Ollie has had what to appears to be a constant cough and cold since birth. I've found it's eased slightly and then reappeared badly, 3 times now. This last bout has lasted nearly 3 weeks and he's still snuffley, wheezy sounding and coughing.

I don't know but I'm in a similar situation.

Poppy was prescribed Gaviscon last week as she has been having trouble with feeing (crying, fussing, etc) but I just don't think it is helping. Well, we have stopped giving it to her as she seems to carry on being sick with it, sometimes more.

I was going to attempt cutting dairy out of my diet to see if this helps.

I have read that lactose allergies do run in families so I'm sure it is more than quite possible. Maybe you should ask your HV or Doc about putting him on lactose free formula? It can't hurt to give it try and it might be the answer to your problems. I hope it tastes nicer than the soya milk I bought the other day though. I think I would rather go without than drink that stuff, urgh!

Funny, cos Poppy has just developed what I think is some excema on her elbows and I had excema too as a baby but I didn't know it was related to lactose intolerance.

lol! I've never tried soya milk, don't think I want to either lol!! x

We thought Jasmine was lactose intolerant and had her on soy milk, but she got reflux anyways... She is now on cows milk with less iron as it was suggested to me that the added iron in the formula may be upsetting her tummy setting off the reflux.

She has improved soooo much on less iron.

You never know, it could be an allery setting off the reflux too.

Cows milk already ?? sorry im not being rude here but im shocked ..do you mean another brand of formula or just plain full fat cows milk ?

I found max was much better with 3.25% milk when he had reflux too ..

I meant cows milk formula ;) not real cows milk... sorry :) it is the enfamil with less iron formula...

When did you put Max on real cows milk?

I just noticed max has the same b-day as my oh too lol

i would ask for a referral to a peadatrician. Milk intolerance usually results in a bad rash, and runny bum...is LO putting on weight?

Good luck anyway, reflux is a bloody nightmare, but there are very good treatments out there!

Thanx everyone. I took Ollie to the doctors this morning and she thinks it might be a lactose intolerence so has referred him to a paediatrician. Just have to wait for an appointment x
