My son is almost 2 and half and still not communicating with much words. I'm so down because I have nephews that are 4 & 6 months younger than he is and they know more words and one is even starting to talk in sentences :(

My son is just not interested in learning how to talk. He refuses to repeat what we say. He just stares at us if we ask him to repeat something. Sometimes he does but it is very rare. His tantrums are so bad because he can't tell me what is wrong or what he wants. It's so frustrating for both of us. He does not answer to simple yes or no questions either.

I'm really afraid to find out there is something wrong with my son. I thought he would be speaking more by now. I'm considering taking him to see a dr but I'm kinda scared of what they might say.

Here is a list of a few words he says the most

Mom
Dad
Milk
Juice
Cookie

He knows a lot his body parts if we ask him to point to them he will. If we ask him to bring us something he will. Sometimes he just ignores us when we talk to him or call his name which worries me. But he gives eye contact and loves to cuddle.

Advice anyone?

My cousin (few days younger than Omar ) wasn't talking at that age. His speech is really getting better, but his talking sounds like babbling. His eldest sister was the same, she didn't start to talk property until she was almost 4 yrs. now she's 13 an A student & she talks fluently using two languages.

As for ignoring you, it's a toddlers thing. Omar ignores me most of the time, they have selective hearing.

Try not to worry Hun, they are different :hugs:

I would bring him down to get him checked, he might just need a bit of speech and language therapy to bring him on quicker. Also have you had his hearing checked, that can delay language too.

My DS is younger but i took him to the GP a he wasn't talking much. The first thing she done was like a basic hearing test and then sent him for one at the hospital. He hasn;t had it yet so not sure if he has any problems with his hearing. Over the last 2 weeks hes been saying quite a lot though so im not really worried. Will still take him just in care.

I think they say to wait untill 2 years old and then they will start looking into things. Have you spoke to your health visitor? The quickest route is probably to see your GP. Theres no harm in asking them do they think he need speech therapy or if there are any red flags for anything.

xx

My DD is the same - she will be 2 next month - however-

she will point to any body part you ask her to
she knows all her colours and will point to them when asked
same as above with numbers

I think it just depends on how they want to do it - some children who have delayed speech are often skilled in other things first. If you feel it is a problem maybe speak to your Health Visitor. I personally am holding off speaking to my HV as I feel DD will talk when she is good and ready and Im not particularly worried about her development in any other areas.

Your not alone =) xxxx

Sounds just like my little man :) its hard not to worry! Definitely get his hearing checked and schedule an appointment with his doctor. More than likely he is just a late talker but if there is something, it's best to get help now. We see a speech therapist once a week and will probably add an occupational therapist as he is showing some sensory processing issues.

There is a great thread in the here about our 2 year olds not talking. :)
