Hi ladies,

So I’m 5 weeks and 6 days and this morning, while on my way to work, I was blessed (sorry, I mean cursed) with some really awful stabby pains in my tummy. It felt like someone was using a red hot poker where a red hot poker should never, ever go!

I was sweating on the train! Got to work, popped to the loo for a quick knicker check, and no blood, so assuming all is well. Pain has now gone (thank God) and feeling fine again.

So far in this pregnancy though (my first one) my only symptoms have been sore nipples and having to get up to pee 3 times a night……still no morning sickness (a bit of occasional nausea but nothing too bad).....

Has anyone else experienced this red hot poker pain? Is it just stuff stretching to accommodate the growing bean?

where abouts in your stomach is it?

I was getting pains in the right hand side of my tummy and my lower ribs have been told its just stretching and its nothing to worry about unless it is more regular and for longer periods.

As for the symptoms that sounds normal, i'm just over 6 weeks pregnant and have got really sore breasts ( like rocks!) weeing often now, bloated and feeling sick but not actually being have you been booked in yet? x

I have been told they are stretching pains but if you are worried make an appointment with the dc or mw just to be sure :) x

Thanks ladies!

Pixie – pain is pretty much all over – lower stomach and ribs (as you mentioned) – definitely not localised to one area – it moved around (in a bid to keep the fun level high I assume!)

Now though it’s totally gone – I feel absolutely fine again…….

Got my first doccy’s appointment this Friday, and I’m already making a mental list of things to squeak at him about i.e. my incompetent cervix (I love that term – makes it sound like my cervix can’t hold a job down)…….I think I’ll add this to the list too

I think it's normal. I had stabbing pain in my tummy area and down below (V area), abit like period cramps, on and off. If there's no bleeding I don't think it's anything to worry about.

I was having such horrible stabbing pain yesterday that I was worried and went to the ER. It was in the lower right side of my stomach. I'd never felt such sharp pain like this before with my last pregnancy and thought I had to either have a cyst or tubal pregnancy going on. They drew blook, took my urine and did an ultrasound. Everything was fine and they chalked it up to stretching pains.
At least I got to see the baby on the ultrasound and hear the heartbeat. :happydance: The baby is right on target at 10 wks 5 days.

I get pains all over my tummy and groin- sometimes stabby, sometimes dull. Been told its just stretching.

My nurse told me that it is very normal to feel uterine pain in early pregnancy. She said it could be the uterus growing to accomodate baby, it could be dehydration which would cause the uterus to cramp up. I know for me with my first pregnancy - I had stabbing pains at about 6-7 weeks and thought I was miscarrying, and turned out is was constipation. Taking a walk helped with the pain a little and I ended up getting a prenatal with a mild laxative in it and never had a problem again!
