As the title says really. My boy currently has a mix of porridge, sometimes with fruit mixed in, sometimes sprinkled with cinnamon or plain. Sometimes he has weetabix but he's gone off that.

I want to give him something different. He sometimes has toast or crumpets but I'd like to add a bit of variety to his cereal.

Have you tried yogurt? My DD loves it!!! Homemade muffins are also pretty good. Gotta say sometimes I run out of ideas as well!!

I'm rubbish with brekki, always has porridge with fruit mixed in, sometimes puree fruit, sometimes chunks of fruit. Not very exciting, but he hardly eats any toast when offered. I do sprinkle Cheerios on his high chair to keep him busy while making it, he loves them!

I give rice crispies as an alternative xx

Shredded wheat, rice crispies, Cheerio-type cereals (won't say Cheerios cos Nestle are evil!), corn flakes?

Hi,
Doesn't your 8 month old choke on toast and cheerios?? My baby is turning 8 months in a few days time and I'm still giving rice cereal for breakfast. Whenever I give something to lumpy he chokes and gags!!!

Shreddies! Big favourite in our house.

Also Bran Flakes and Special K. As well as others that have been mentioned: Shredded Wheat, Weetabix, Cheerios.

If you wanted to move away from cereal you could try eggs, eggy bread, pancakes, yogurt & fruit.

He LOVES toast but he does have a habit of putting a lot in his mouth so I'm always on the edge of my seat when he eats it but he seems to manage ok. However, it was only in the last 3 weeks that he's perfected this. Before that he would gag and choke on most things, even slightly textured things. Then one day it was as if he woke up and thought, yeah....I can chew and swallow no problem!

He did have a chokey/gagging incident last night on my homemade bolognase. There was nothing in it that could have obstructed his airways but he must of got a little bit caught in his throat and he took ages to cough it up, along with a bit of sick. That was v scary but I know he had nothing in his mouth that was big enough to actually obstruct. I've not tried Cheerios myself yet. I think I will try them with milk first before giving them dry. The gagging and choking thing is the worst part of weaning isn't it?!!

Thanks everybody. Some great ideas. It's easy to get stuck in a rut with porridge and weetabix! Can't wait to try him on some new things.....and me as I always have porridge too!

I give LO toast, porridge, a mixture of dry cereals for her to do herself (for those days I just need coffee and a quiet 5 minutes to come round!), this morning wee one had weetabix and whole milk with half a banana mashed into it and she loved it!
