Well it looks like I may have to start weaning Ava, her weight gain hasn't been great over the past few weeks and now she's lost 1oz in 2 weeks.
The HV has said it's up to me to see what happens over the next couple of weeks if I carry on as normal (bf) or to begin weaning.
I am interested in BLW and so was wondering what I give her to begin with - I understand the principles behind baby rice but wondered if there's an alternative...especially as I'd hoped to hang on to the 6 month mark

What do people reckon?

No advice to offer really, just waned to share this information on increasing a breasfed babies weight gain:

If you are keen to hang on to 6 months, it might be an idea to try the things lised and get another weigh in in a fortnight.

My LOs weight gain slowed down at 22 weeks and is now very slow, and i can be hard not to worry!

Thanks, I'm caught between wanting to hold on and exclusively bf and making sure I don't do this at the detriment to her thriving.
I'm thinking I'll get her weighed in a week rather than in 2 weeks and see what happens then.....I feel babyrice is the HV's answer to everything!!

Also remember that solids don't offer much as far as calories so it might not even help her weight gain and might make her cut back even more on nursing. But good luck with whichever you decide :) You could start with just solids instead of rice cereal...you don't have to start with that. Or oatmeal instead of rice. Not sure what your brands are there but we have Earth's best here...it's an organic brand, really good stuff

Hmmm yeah I'd not thought about the fact that she'll actually get more calories from breast milk anyway but I'd still be bf'ing at the same time
