Hello All.

I am new to this site, and I hope someone can tell me honestly if I am being unrealistic.

I am 38 and having been trying for a baby for 14 years now. I have had 3 unsuccessful IVF's, and have PCSO.

For years I didn't get any periods at all and then I took the bull by the horns and started dieting. I have now lost just over 3 stone (with another 5 to loose I am afraid) and then all of a sudden fairly regular periods started occuring. I had given up on the chance of ever falling naturally pregnant, but in the back of my mind I have this nagging voice telling me it might be possible!!! At my age and with my history am I being unrealistic to think it might happen?

Please be honest!!!

Anything is possible! I hope you don't mind me saying but I've read that weight can definitely play a part so if you know you need to lose weight and are happy and willing to do so then I would say it will definitely give you a better chance (if there are no other medical reasons why you haven't gotten pregnant). The return of regular periods has to be a good sign.

Good luck hun, I really hope you get there in the end. I can't imagine how you must feel after all you've been through and trying for so long, but I would say the fact your periods have become regular has got to be a big step.

I agree with peekaboo!
I wish you loads of luck! :dust:

If you were eight stone overweight (which I assume you were judging on the three lost and five to go) it's very possible that's why you were not getting pregnant, so it's possible.

Having said that, what was your BMI when you did IVF? I was told it had to be below thirty or they wouldn't treat you...

I know on the NHS you cant get IUI/IVF with BMI over 30, but private may be different.

and yes, anything is possible!

Thank you all so much for your encouragement.

In answer to the question about BMI and IVF, I am very ashamed to say that my BMI at the time of the 3 IVF's was around 45. 12 years ago (when I had my first IVF), I didn't get the option of IVF on the NHS and so I had no alternative but to go privately and the issue of weight never came into question. I never responded to the drugs very well on 2 occasions (only 2 and 4 eggs) and on the third when the clinic really pushed me, I ended up with OHSS, and so on hindsight having a much lower BMI might have made a big different!!!

my clinic for the IUI was NHS, and I struggled to get down to 12 st 7 to be allowed it. during treatment, my weight went up to 14 st, and I didnt respond to the meds. They say that was because my weight was too high... Have you got any chances available on the NHS?

Hi and welcome!

I'd def agree with the other girls, weight will play a huge part in your cycles and hence on your ability to conceive. Other than losing weight, are you having any treatment for pcos?

You've made an amazing acheivement in losing 3 stone already. Use having a baby as your motivation for the rest and I reckon your chances will be greatly improved.

Good luck!

Is there anyway you could try IVF again once your BMI has gone down a bit more? You might find that it works this time around. Good luck!

IVF is an option when I have lost more weight. To be honest though having had OHSS with my third IVF, which believe me isn't the nicest thing I have ever had, I am terrified that it might happen again if I have more IVF. I desparately want a baby don't get me wrong, but at the same time I never want to be that ill again:nope:

I agree, I have some weight to lose they say its not good to be overweight. But hey i like foooood haha. God we'll all be drips at this rate  I'm going back to Rosemary Conley this week to shake some weight xxxx

:hugs:

I am so sorry that you have been through so much. I cannot even imagine what you have been through and what you must feel like.

Congratulations though blueshrimper on the magnificent weight loss! I have to say that it seems through my struggle as well that the theme is that weight loss could be the key......to which I have been in denial. You have inspired me today, so thank you!

I know I have not been through nearly an ounce of what you have been through but I really do think that many things are possible so please don't give up hope - especially with you now having a regular period.

Best wishes and I hope to continue to see you here and hear how you are doing.

:hugs:
