Am I causing more harm by moving him to his pack and play for sleep?

My ds has "slept" in his crib in his room since 3 months old. He is now almost 11 months old. He stands up in his crib now. There wouldn't be an issue with that except his crib doesn't move any lower than it already is. All it takes is one look down and he's over the railing. We cannot afford a new crib at the moment. I've set up his pack and play in his room and we are going to try putting him in it tonight. He's never slept in it.

He's never been a good sleeper, up at least every three hours. But my question is, am I doing myself a huge disadvantage by moving him out of his crib? We just can't afford one right now

If the crib is unsafe then the best option is surely to use the pack and play, you never know his sleep might even improve for you GL :flower:

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be any question about it to me.

If the crib isn't safe, you need a new solution. The Pack 'n' Play seems like the only option right now. Whether that might be a disadvantage to you probably shouldn't come into it.

I'm obviously not putting him back in that crib anymore. Just wondering if it's going to cause trouble, as he's not use to it and we achieved getting him in the crib at 3 months.

Well, I guess it's one of those things you don't know till you do it.

When we moved our son to his todder bed, I wondered if it would ruin his sleep (he had been STTN for about six months). But he took to it like a champ.

On the other hand, when my friend moved her son to his toddler bed, his sleep went to hell, and he had STTN since he was 3 months.

You've just gotta bite the bullet and do it. You may be pleasantly surprised... or not!

It took him a while to fall asleep tonight, but only time will tell. He's usually up every three hours to eat.. But night weaning is a whole new topic! Lol

I've heard they do sell pack n play matresses, which might help and be a more affordable alternative as well.

I hope it goes over well, I know it can be difficult switching up their sleeping arrangements.

If he isn't safe in his crib, then yes, I'd move him somewhere that is safer. Alternatively, if the pack and play doesn't work or isn't comfortable and disturbs his sleep, you could also consider moving him to just the crib mattress on the floor and babyproofing his room so it's safe. That way he can't fall out. We mostly co-slept, but when we traveled to visit family or friends, we really never used a travel cot, just put the cot mattress or a single mattress (depending on how much space we had) on a floor in a safe space. That worked great.

He actually only woke up once around midnight last night to eat! Best he's slept in a very long time!
