Hi Ladies,

Could anyone help shed some light on this for me please? I have done lots of research online now and am finiding some right conflicting views!!

I drink about 5 mugs of Yorkshire Tea (not Yorkshire Gold cos that's stronger even though I love it) per day and that's with me having cut it down cos I'm PG.

Is this too much? I've read about it causing Fetal growth restriction and now I'm thinking well flipping hec do I have to give tea up not too? Obviously I'll do anything for a healthy Bub, especially after losing but I'd be grateful for your advice ladies as Googling has brought conflicting views.

Thanks in advance

:coffee:

I know that I have read that one cup of coffee per day is all you should have...but I have also read that even women who drink only one cup have higher miscarriage rates. It's terrible. I love coffee...:(

I don't know how much caffeine the tea has...probably has to do with how long you steep it. I know that you can find the amount of mg. of caffeine you can have per day while pregnant. Not sure though. It does seem like a lot. Can you try to stick to one cup? Ugh. I know it's so hard though:( Sending hugs:hugs:

Hi jellybean, thanks for the reply. I do love my cup of tea but I don't want increased risk of m/c - been there, done that, don't want another t shirt!

I'll have to buy some decaff tea (bluggh!!) and drink more fruit tea.

I've found that you're allowed 200mg of caffeine but I wouldn't know how to measure that?

Each 12 ounce class of ice tea has 67-90 mg of caffeine. You should try not to steep it to long. I still drink ice tea but I will only drink one class or mix it with some water. They said max is 300 and since hot tea is stronger I would switch to decaf like me :)

Brewed tea actually contains more caffeine than a cup of coffee. In fact a cup of tea, prepared with a tea bag, which has been steeped for 2 minutes, contains approximately 235 milligrams of caffeine. A cup of tea, prepared with loose tea leaves, which have been steeped for 2 minutes, contains approximately 185 milligrams of caffeine

I feel your pain, I used to drink loads of tea at work but now I've completely switched off caffeine and I've been drinking Honeyed Ginger tea - which also helps quite a bit with any nausea and is just as relaxing as regular tea!

I've been told 2 mugs of tea max. I've switched to tetleys decade and it doesn't taste any different :)

Give it up all together. I was a big coffee drinker (also loved tea) but went cold turkey when I found out. I feel great for it now and am so glad I did xx

ive read 1-2 cups a day tbh i haven't seen any different but im trying to keep that low anyway,im on my second cup of the day,i was a huge tea drinker too,and i noticed the diff in taste between decaf and caffinated, but i dont mind decaf! xx

I drink the yorkshire gold decaf and it tastes no diff to the regular. The removal of the caffine does not alter the taste.

MrsM17 I just couldn't give up my cup of tea. I can't function in the morning without it.

Reckon I'll cut down then to 2 cups and drink decaff too. I've just been a and brewed myself a cup of Strawberry and Mango tea. I do love that but not as much.

I presume if tea is decaff you can drink as much as you want?

Tea has on average 75mg per cup so 2-3 cups a day is recommended

MrsM17 I just couldn't give up my cup of tea. I can't function in the morning without it.

Neither could I, I HAD to have my coffee in the morning before I did anything. Its not for eveyone going cold turkey though, although it was very easy. I am just a big believer in things being a phycological addiction not a physical one ha ha!! I like the challenge!!

If you to the NHS website and look at 'foods to avoid' on the pregnancy bit it tells u about caffeine tea and coffee. You can have 200mg of caffeine a day"
Coffee - 100
Tea - 75
etc
So you could actually have 3 teas a day. It does say dont panic as risk is low. But I guess decaf is better :)

I only drink decaff tea these days even before i was pregnant, I cant tell the difference. We have Tesco own label decaff at the mo. I love my coffee though (the un decaff variety), just one cup in the morning to get me going ! When I had my scan the sonographer actually told me to go and drink some more coffee so the baby would move more into the correct position for a measurement :D

I have cut down to 1 cup of tea in the morning and 1 cup in the afternoon since being pregnant.
If you are gonna switch straight over to decaff i would advise you that you could get bad withdrawal headaches, maybe you could reduce it each day for a week beforehand.
Also remember that chocolate and fizzy drinks like cola also contain caffeine.

Hi
I have bought tetley decaff tbags from tesco. Tastes the same and you can drink as much as you like! XX

With DD I drank 2-3 half cups of tea at day at work and gave up coffee. I also watched my chocolate intake and would give up a cuppa for a bar of chocolate!!

I haven't been able to stomach coffee since this so now I am on the decaff and it is great as I can share a brew with my colleagues without having to have something with caffeine. I made the switch to Decaff a couple of months ago and they already knew I couldn't stomach real coffee so I dont think that anyone thinks anything of it.

Its best to cut your caffeine levels down but remember when you go to hospital for any problems while pregnant what is one of the first things the midwives offer you???? Tea or Coffee!! So they would hardly offer it if it was ok in small amounts. :hugs:

I drank decaf pg tips before anyhoo and I tell you what I am a right tea leaf (about 15-20 cups a day before I was pregnant) and I really can't taste the difference at all. There was no way on gods green earth I could have given up my tea so for peace of mind, i'd say just switch to decaf. I can't stick coffee so didn't have to worry about that. Mind you, I've gone right off my fruit teas in the last couple of weeks and have found that too much tea now gives me indigestion.....

I wouldn't recommend going cold turkey, no need, you'll make yourself feel terrible (I gave myself hideous migraines when I went cold turkey :nope:). I drink my normal Yorkshire Tea in the morning (and have right through for all of my pregs apart from a few weeks off for MS!) then stick to de-caff for the rest of the day :flower: xxx
