I had a cervical stitch placed during my 16th week not only because I am currently pregnant with twins, but because I had my first born at 29 weeks and I was diagnosed with cervical incompetence.

Anyway, all went well with the procedure and I didn’t even bleed even though I was told a little bleeding is normal few hours after the stitch has been put in.

This morning, however, I woke up with an uncomfortable feeling where I suspect my stitch to be. It isn’t really painful, but I have an irritating feeling (I’m finding it hard to explain the feeling because it isn’t really itchy and it isn’t aching per say… just a strange feeling).

Both babies are exceptionally active today and I can feel both of them kicking, which could be a good sign or a bad one. Also, my undies are overly dump today (tmi, I know). For those who have had stitches put in, is this a normal feeling or should I call my doctor immediately?

I haven't had stitches put in personally, but I would contact your doctor nevertheless. They can provide the reassurance and expertise you require and deal with the problem if there is one. Hope everything is okay!

Thanks Groovychick. Thinking I should call my OB as well. It could be nothing, but surely the worrying isnt good for the babies either.

i have a stitch i would call just to put your mind at ease

I have a stich, and have been feeling off, sore and achy for a couple of days. In my case its just a UTI. I think you should get it checked.

Hey everyone. I saw my OB last night and he suspects I have a UTI. I submitted a urine sample and I'm merely waiting for the results so that I can get it treated if it proves to be an infection.

Otherwise, everything looks well with babies and stitch. Baby A, the boy, is measuring ahead of schedule at 27 weeks 2 days, while Baby B, the girl, yesterday measured 26 weeks 3 days.

I was also told that at 28 weeks I would get an injection to strengthen babies' lungs and that the procedure would be repeated again at 33 weeks. My c-section will be scheduled few weeks after my second dose. I sadly didn’t enquire much about the injections as I was elated that the twins were fine, so if anyone knows more about it please do share.

Thanks once again, I truly appreciate the advice posted here.

Thats wonderful news hun, congrats to you and your babies xx

Hi there. Glad to hear all was ok hun. I had loads of discharge when carrying the twins and it worried me sick! That's the only symptom I had when Evie was born at 24wks. I am pleased to say that it was a normal part of the pregnancy, as was lots of low down kicking and a strange sensation where the stitch was.

Remember that it will pull as the pressure on your cervix increases - and please keep in mind what combined wieght my cervix endured (20-24Ibs) without giving way xxx

PS - Steroids are brilliant if given at right moment. They're best given 24-36 prior to baby's birth, tho there are some medics who give them throughtout the middle of pregnancy just in case baby comes early. It can't hurt to have them, but so long as they're given if you show any signs of premature labour, then they will help to mature baby's lungs hugely.

the injection to help their lungs is most likely steroids to mature their lungs. it can make loads of difference to how well baby can breathe, i had them at 28 and 29 weeks, i think the closest together they like to do them is 7 days? because they knew sam would be arriving very soon! he didnt need to be ventilated, which i think he would have if it were not for the steroids. that's about all i know about them, except that you have them into your thigh/bum and it stings a bit!

I should have asked you as you went through all the same scares. My OB also told me that the discharge was normal, but asked that I get tested for UTI anyway to cover all the basis. He also said it was a positive sign that it didn't hurt when passing urine. More than anything I'm glad that babies are well and stitch is holding.

And whatever do you mean by the steroids are best given 24-36 prior to birth? Do you mean weeks, days or hours?

Ahhh, I believe I also got one of those injections when I went into labour with Jaime at 29 weeks. Sadly, I was 4cm dilated and went into labour less than 2 hours after the injection was administered, so I don't think it helped my little boy (although he did fight for his life for 47 hours).

sorry - meant hours hun, thanks to my baby brain i am behaving like a total ditz at the moment ;)

The steroids work with maximum effect if first shot is given 2 days before birth, and the secon 24hrs before. This doesn't mean they don't work if given outside this window, just that they have optimum effect inside it x

i'm so sorry you lost Jaime, it hurts just thinking about it. *hugs*

I had no pain when passing urine either, but still had a severe UTI none the less.

The injections, as others have mentioned, will be steroids. If given at appropriate times, they will mature the babies lungs making them stronger for an early delivery.

I was give the first injection of steroids before I was flown out of my local hospital, so 24+2, and then because they knew I didn't have much longer to go, they gave me another injection at 24+6. He was born at 25+0. Normally they woul never do both shots so close together. They put in the back part of my hip, and it did hurt alot, I won't lie.

I believe they have said I will have a steroid shot with this pregnancy at 22weeks, and then another at 26 weeks, if I'm still pregnant. Right now their ultimate goal for me is 32 weeks, however they said anything after 26 weeks is gravy for me...

Oh, and when I went into early labour, it started with light pink show on toilet paper and a little in my undies. I also had some big yellowy jelly like globs of stuff come out as well. I also felt very 'off,' and had severe diarhea for 3 days prior to being diagnosed as in early labour. This was all without a stich in though, so not sure if early labour signs with a stich in are any different.
