The birth story of Charlie Lowe 2/1/2012
The wonderful birth of my second boy
I will start by saying my first labour was hell! 22 hours of pain. Two failed epidurals, and ended up in surgery about to have a c section but pushed will all my might and they sucked him out. I was so out of it, I was throwing up and didn't care what came out of me. Then they failed to put a catheter in me after the birth and for 3 hours i screamed the place down. Horrible!!
Anyway .....
I was so scared to have a second but I'm so pleased I did.
It started on the 2 jan at 2.30 5 days over due. We went to bed at 12pm and then at 2 i went to the toliet my belly was sore which was normal. Then I started getting tightening which was normal. But then at 3am I felt a pop. I woke my husband and said 'my waters have gone quick get a towel' manged to hold some in lying down. Then bang they went and contractions really started. We got up and I put a pad on and got in front of the computer and put holiday settings in my on line shop and sent some orders to the warehouse ha ha.
I rang the hospital they said to come in at 7 as that would be 4 hours after my waters went my parents came to look after my son at 6.30. we got hooked up to the monitor and they scanned me to makes sure head was down which it was, my waters kept going and going to went through about 3 pairs of leggings and loads of pants. It was clear I didn't buy enough pants or pads, so we went tesco and I ran around picking up cheap pants and pads I had a contraction at the till.
My husband said lets have a McDonald's breakfast so we went*through the drive through *and took one home. After eating it I felt like someone shoved a needle up me and popped more water and bang the contractions went mad this was about 10am I was in tears the pain.
So I went upstairs and they we coming every 10 mins god the paid I was in tears with each one. I went in the bath and when I got out they were coming every 2 mins. So we got in the car and went to the hospital. I had the worst contractions in the car
We got there at 12pm and was put in a nice room they asked if I wanted a epidural I said yes, they said they will have to transfer me upstairs, but they gave me gas and air and it didn't seem to bad and then I had pethadine which I didnt think I would like but it was brilliant. She examined me and I was a easy 4cm. So I was bouncing on a ball and taking gas and air.
At around 2.30-3 gas and air was not cutting it and I felt like I needed a poo. All throughout this my waters kept going and going which the midwife said was good as he was moving down. I pressed the buzzer in a panick I never got to this stage before with my first son.
A new midwife came on shift and I was screaming I wanted a epidural but she said the pressure is a good sign but I hurt like hell. I wanted to be examined but she didn't want to and told me to go with my body. I pleaded and to my shock I was fully dilated omg 3 hours 4-10cm
So time to push, omg how hard was that. She took the gas and air off me and the pethadin had wore off. I couldn't push the way she wanted me to it hurt. But I managed to do a few then his head came half way out, I looked at my husband and my eyes were nearly popping out of my head the pain omg. So we waited for the next contraction so I could push the head out it took forever, i pushed and his*head popped out the relief was amazing, then next push his body came. I cryed and screamed 'i did it' my husband was in tears. He was born at 4pm*
I has skin to skin straight away, I had a second degree tear which took over a hour to stitch I was back on gas and air.
Charlie was 8.10lb and perfect. I was allowed home the same day and his first night slept from 2am to 8.30am our alarm woke us before he did.
I can now say I had a natural delivery well on gas and air and pethadin. My active labour was recorded at 4 hours as thats from 4cm.*
I would do that delivery again but it was very very painful
