Hello ladies,

Which formulas have you used and what has been you experience?
I put american and canadian moms in the title only because I know UK has different brands that may not be sold where I am but your advice on constipation would still be appreciated.

I have a baby girl that is just 2+ weeks old. I combination feed, brestfeed and formula feed. In a day I would say I breast feed 4 times a day and the rest is formula (nestle Good Start with probiotic) I suppliment because of low milk supply and not being able to eat well.

my baby girl has had constipation this week, I can tell because her face gets red and I can see her trying to push but the poo BUT it does not come out. She has been up at night crying and uncomfortable because of the constipation. She burps well and passes farts/gas through out the day. ON tuesday we gave her a glycerin suppository less than the recommended dose we broke a tiny quarter off and inserted within 5min she pooped it was a large amount greenish/yellowish color and was NOT very hard looking and NOblood.

I am now considering switching the formula because I don't want to have to always give her the glycerin or any other stool softener on a regular bases and would rather correct the problem by giving her a formula that suits her best.

You could try Enfamil Gentlease. It's also partially broken down milk protein (like Good Start), but has a 60:40 whey/casein ration like breast milk rather than 100% whey in Good Start. I think the casein must be in breast milk for a reason and keeping as close to nature as possible is always best.

we use similac sensitive. works wonders and we havent had any problems.

I use similac regular low iron (found that formulas with higher amounts of iron were making my LO constipated) she has one BM once a day.

Our dr said that it doesn't matter how often they poop. Many times a day or going days between... Either is fine. They aren't constipated if it's soft poop. It's only if it's hard that they are constipated. Newborns don't know how to poop. Both my girls acted like it's the toughest job in the world when they are babies and Jordan still is this way at 4 months. They have a tough time figuring out how to push and often turn red and grunt.

We use similac sensitive. Our dr said to not switch around between formulas and most of the time if young babies have issues with formula switching won't help them as young babies just need time to develop their digestive system better and around the time they are ready for solids they tend to do better with formula. Jordan was very very gassy when she was newborn so this is where all this was talked about. We switched from regular similac to sensitive as the dr was ok with that but didn't want me to switch brands completly. It didn't really help her gas. Dh and I were just discussing that she hasn't been gassy at all lately... So digestion is obviously getting better.

My lo was pooping once a day and the past month has been usually once every other day. Its soft but she grunts and concentrates very very hard. There is no mistaking what she is doing.

I have also heard someone say that newborns don't know how to poop or that they don't like the uncomfortable feeling and end up keeping it in. I guess it all improves in time.

We started with Enfamil Newborn, but he was fussy & gassy on it, so we switched to Enfamil Gentlease.

We started with similac but it constipated her so we went to enfamil newborn and she pooped several times after about 24 hrs on it so we are sticking with that for now :) only thing is she started spitting up a lot today but I'm hoping it's just an off day.

I use Gerber good start and my LO is fine. We tried her on Enfamil and that gave her really bad gas. I hope you find the right one:hugs:

I EBF for 6 weeks and then we switched to formula

She takes Similac Sensitive, she is way less fussy and it seemed to help with her extreme spitting up and discomforts

She was constipated after the switch to formula in general but now she goes just fine.

I had tried Gerber Good Start gentle and she didn't like it. I gave her regular Similac advance but she kept barfing everything up.

I'm sticking with the Sensitive and I also use TOmmee Tippee bottles which seem to work well

She poops once or twice a day, it's a big change from BF'ing as she would poop during almost every feed when she was EBF!
