anyone had this, and if so can the doctors just do it as a blood test?

I've heard that it can be done any day of your cycle and it can tell if your egg quality is normal?

I have been unexplained, and so im wondering maybe before i hit IVF or IUI i should have a check on if the eggs im producing are actually of decent quality??

Any info would be much appreciated

take it no one has a clue what im on about then? Lol

I attended a fertility show last weekend and they highly recommended this test. The NHS doesn't offer it due to funding but they said the FSH test is not a good indicator of ovarian reserve. However, a scan and the AMH test is and all private clinics offer it as standard. They told me, if my ovarian reserve is low, then I should just forget about IUI and go straight for IVF.

very interesting thanks hun!!! pitty the nhs dont fund it :( thats the thing you wont no if your ovarian reserve is low until you have ivf.

Yes as pp said it's egg quantity not quality.

Mine was poop it was the first indicator for me of my infertility and led us to move fast to ART (which then revealed more issues!). I hate my result but i'm very glad I spent £60 to get it tested quite early on.

The other thing that helps indicate reserve is an antral follicle count (an ultrasound), not always accurate though - mine is super but my amh is rubbish.

sounds like a good idea, I think I will get it done. Thanks for sharing x

Is there a test for finding out the quality of your eggs?

Imaan the only test you can do for quality is IVF, which is both treatment and diagnostic in one.

In IVF how many eggs fertilize and how many embryos 'arrest' in the first 2-3 days after fertilization are indicators of egg quality. Even then though some people might have eggs that just don't handle the stress of the lab well.

Outside of IVF your age is the best rough indicator we have for how many 'normal' eggs you may have.

Thank you Nell, that's really useful info. It's a shame that most of us won't know until we delve into IVF.

The scan that you mentioned earlier was also recommended to me by the doctors at the fertility show I attended. I'll hopefully be getting both that at the AMH test done this month. They said I need to be free of meds so will have to put my IUI cycle on hold for the coming month.

Hi ladies, I'm getting AMH level tested on Tues at private fertility clinic. I expect it will be on the low side - I'm 38 & don't ov every month. On the plus side I did manage to get preg earlier this yr (though that took a yr and ended at 12/13wks).
Im just hoping it is over 1.1 as the clinic wont do IVF/ICSI if below that figure. Of course what Id really like is not to need treatment at all, but right now we'd take whatever help we need. I'll let you know how it goes on tues - our first visit to clinic (OH also getting SA). I'll be bringing a print out from my GP of all my other blood test results over the last yr (day3,day21, thyroid etc).
Good luck ladies xx

good luck threebirds, let us know how you get on xx

Aww threebirds... all the best with that honey. Hopefully none of us will need IVF and get a natural pregnancy that ends in a healthy baby. But wishing you all the best with the AMH test (and scan, if you are having one) :flower:
