Hi everyone I posted on here a few weeks ago as i had been given a 1:64 chance of having a ds baby! Anyway I decided after a long and hard week to have an amnio which I had on monday and I got my results back today and baby looks 'normal' hate that saying but just use it in quotations lol! Anyway I just wanted to post my positive experience of my experience as I'm sure other women are trying to make this horrible decision.
I went into Birmingham womens hospital on monday at 9:30 and I had a chat with a screening midwife, a nice relaxed chat and then I had a scan and the amnio was performed. I had a lovely doctor and midwife and student in with me and was never unsure that she didn't have enough experience. She was quick and concise and got the twenty ml she needed in about 40 seconds.
Afterwards a research midwife asked me if i would have a bloodtest for research into the maternit21 test they are looking into and I decided to do it and honestly that bloodtest hurt more than the amnio. I went home after and know that I am not out of the danger of miscarrying yet but am satisfied that bubs is ok at present.
Because I was just 15 weeks the screening mw warned me that the cells can take longer to mature and i could be looking at the full two weeks for results but as i say at 11am this morning she called with them.
Obviously I am relieved with the result but also that my care was so professional and consistent.
