If you have an arranged overdraft with your bank, e.g £1500 and you spend like, £1100 of it but then £500 needs to be taken from your account but you only have £400 of your arranged overdraft left, would it take the £500 so you were left in minus numbers, or an unarranged overdraft, or would the money not go out until you had the full £500 in there? (These are hypothetical figure btw)

the money would come out, then get refused so go back in and you would be charged and the direct debit or whatever still would need paid!

my bank would let it go out then charge me unarranged overdraft fees.

I used to work for HSBC and the money would go out but you would be charged for it, better to phone your bank and if possible increase your overdraft limit. Sometimes they will allow a temporary one for you. x

Ok thanks! I think I will have enough in my account for the DD I was just worrying incase I didn't :)

Have any of you ever applied for a same day loan? I just had a look at my balance and I'm not sure I'm going to have enough... I looked at some quick loan places but the repayments are pretty high, it's £25 for every £100 you borrow :/

i would avoid them at all costs. Cant you ring your bank and ask for a temporary higher overdraft? the interest on that would be smaller than a same day loan.

wonga.com's quite cheap

it depends whether or not it would be cheaper just
to pay the overdraft fees or the repayment of a loan?

xx

The overdraft fees would be cheaper but the money won't come out of my account will it? So I will have to pay overdraft fee plus my DD won;t even go out? I tried wonga.com but they can;t give me a loan, I'm getting a bit desperate and so I'm thinking I might have to just do a quick loan. I won;t be able to ring my bank till monday and that's when my money goes out

Banks are usually open on a Saturday hun.

Only saturday mornings in my area but you can apply online if you have online banking?

Would they be open at this time? I know banks usually close at 12 on a saturday but not sure about their helplines

I can apply online but it only goes to a certain amount and then I can't apply for any more and I'm on the maximum which isn't really that much but that's all I can get

some banks dont open saturdays most close
around 1 oclock aswell

if it's your only option then you might have
to go for it ... most pawn brokers do quick loans
or we used to put things up for buy back when
we really needed the money, it's not the
best idea in the world but if its your only choice

With my bank the money would go and I'd have to pay unarranged overdraft fees until I was back within agreed limits. Can't you borrow it from someone? xx

i work for natwest and the way ive heard it go from the lending dep is that sometimes they may let it go through but charge you, other times they will just return it unpaid. I think it depends on how often it happens. Best ring the bank in the morn and ask to speak to the lending dep or whoever depending on the bank because if your nice they normally can overide it so it goes thru but you will get the charge x

Thanks everyone, I double checked and my money doesn't go out till tuesday so I will ring the bank tomorrow and see if I can get my overdraft extended or if they will let me off and let the DD go out and just charge me for that
