I'm confused. I know for clomid, I thought docs like to see at least 18mm size for a follicle to ovulate. Is this a good size for at the actual ovulation time or is it a good size to see and then use a trigger shot or wait another day or two before an IUI. So in fact, is the actual follicle bigger than 18mm when ovulating ? Does my question even make sense? Thanks in advance..haha..

My doctor always looks for 20mm before a trigger shot. A follicle will grow 1-2mm every day, therefore it is POSSIBLE to take a trigger with 18mm size follicle since ovulation doesn't occur for 24-36 hours after shot. BUT, you will have a better chance of the follicle to rupture if it is over 20mm.

For example, mine was 22mm and the doc gave me a trigger that day. I felt myself ovulate the very next day.

I hope that helps! :)

I know IVF is a little different but when you have your monitoring scans they are looking for a good selection of 18-22mm follies and then you trigger - they should grow a little more before they are released then.

Good luck :dust:

My RE looked for 15-18mm, triggered that night and did IUI the following morning. 15-18 is large enough and allows some room to grow a tad more in the next day or two.

My RE likes to see over 20 as well, though 18 is still big enough to have grown to that between the trigger and ovulation.
