My husband was born premature and had a PDA that required surgery. As a result, my OB wanted me to have a fetal echocardiogram done (no big deal, I haven't been worried). Last time they couldn't get everything because of the baby's position so I had to go back today for that and a growth scan. I was told everything is on track. However, the baby was not in a good position again and they STILL didn't get everything. The doctor (a perinatal cardiologist, not my regular OB) was not concerned about that (I still am not concerned. I am told the chances of a heart defect are 2-4%). Then she tells me that I have to come back for another growth scan in a month (means missing more work! ugh!) because apparently if you are above your ideal bodyweight during pregnancy, there can be issues with the baby growing properly. Has anyone else been told this?
What's more, I find out today that they want me to do a non-stress test 2x/week until delivery starting at 36 weeks! Is this really necessary? Especially when everything has been on track? At least I was able to schedule those and one of them will be with my regular OB during those appointments...but that is so much time to take off work! I mean, couldn't I put the monitor on myself? Hell, I work at a hospital...I could have one of the nurses help if necessary...it can't be that hard!
Sorry for the rant...it just doesn't seem very logical to me. I mean, my mom had A LOT more issues when she was pregnant with me and didn't have nearly this many tests!
