Hi,

I rang my hospital to book in for the class they run its based over a two day period .
They told me I can't attend one until I am 33 weeks gone and due to limited space my OH may not be able to accompany me.

Has anyone else had this??

33 weeks sounds about right, but I won't be happy about OH not being allowed to go.

ah ok I didin't know if 33 weeks was the norm... But him not being able to go possibley due to spaces I think is unfair..

no me neither, isn't that sort of the point?

Mine aren't til around 35 weeks.

...for 5 weeks!

Are these NHS classes? I did two - last week and the week before at around 33 weeks. I was the 'earliest' though - everyone else was weeks ahead of me. One lady only had two days to go at last weeks class!

Im from Ireland so its the HSE which is the equivilant to your NHS i think...
Im ok with 33 weeks now that I know it is normal its my first so I dont ahve a clue and the hospital hate answering question I feel like im annoying them this si why this site is so good.

Yep that's pretty normal re: the time to go but I would insist on taking your partner though. I think it's really important that they learn along with us and that they are told what to do to support us throughout labour.

one of my classes was ladies only as it was run by a physiotherapist and covered a lot about your wellbeing in pregnancy. they hoped by not allowing men, women would be more open and willing to talk about the fact that they are now peeing themselves regularly amongst other things :haha: it worked!

i think it's essential that men attend classes on labour and feeding - but sometimes they just don't need to be there. xx

In Glasgow partners are only invited to the last ante natal class, they say it is because women are more likely to talk freely among themselves if the men are not present.
