I live in Liverpool. This is our 1st baby. I bought a pregnancy journal today. And said to look on the national childbirth website for info on antenatal classes. I thought they were free!?! Do you have to pay for all your classes? Are nhs ones free? Can anyone shed some light?

NHS antenatal classes are free. Antenatal classes through NCT are more expensive around £180 I think depending on income. Different areas do it differently too! I am booked into a course of 4 2 hour sessions. But have moved and they just do a one day session.

Personally, I think paying for the NCT ones is a waste because most NHS classes cover the same stuff. But they might be shorter and busier as they are free.

Plenty of time to look into it though as you won't be going to them till 30+ weeks :)

I think that's right, main difference is the cost and number of people attending. Personally I am intending to do both NHS and NCT classes as I will be a first time, single mum and have heard via friends that the NCT network is a really good place to meet friends. Groups for classes are about 8 and there are various social events so i'm hoping to make some friends to spend time and share experiences with. I guess therefore it depends on your circumstances. X

Hey well i went to Ormskirk hosp for my nhs ones, there was 7 of us and our partners and they where fab, they where for a hour once a week and covered everything :) x

Do our midwives tell us about the classes and when to go?

Yep mine booked me a place, as they didnt jus let people turn up :) xx
