Hi all..
does anybody know or has experienced same offer me some advice?I have an anterior placenta , i found this out at 20 week scan.. I cant feel baby move and midwife wants to see me more often to monitor movement.. i can feel him down low sometimes which is nice, he must get a leg or arm down there making me feel....But im worried about birth, does it affect a natural birth? i know if c section required they will have to scan to see where placenta is.....Im just worrying as in my last preg i had a massive bleed at birth , and during this preg ive had a massive bleed too, so panicking a bit....Any advice would be appreciated x

I've had an anterior placenta with both of my pregnancies and it hasn't made any difference to anything at all other then feeling both of them a little late. With my first I know I didn't feel anything at all until sometime after 21 weeks but once I did start feeling her she was wild and I could feel her constantly. This time around I didn't feel anything until 18 weeks. As far as having a natural birth with an anterior placenta I had a completely unmedicated natural birth and was only in labour for around 4 hours with my first so definitely didn't affect that.

I had an anterior placenta with my last pregnancy and also with this one too. It never caused any issues giving birth with DD. I do feel a lot more movements down low compared to high up but I'm sure as baby gets bigger, I'll feel him more regardless as that was what it was like with DD.

I also had anterior placenta with my son, and have it again with this one. Def didn't affect giving birth at all - both my labours/births were completely 'natural' and unmedicated.
With my son, I did have some trouble 'getting him out' so to speak, b/c he had a VERY short umbilical cord which kept pulling him back in :dohh: I don't think that has much to do with placenta placement though.
I had a lot more trouble feeling his movements of course - I must've run to the mw for doppler checks at least 4 times in my 3rd tri , and I have only just started feeling *little* irregular flutters with this one, which is late for a 3rd... Other than that, I don't think it causes problems!

I have an anterior placenta and have never heard of it causing problems. I'm not getting extra monitoring because of it and nobody has mentioned that it might cause problems if I have a c-section. Everyone I've spoken to at my hospital have said it's super common and I didnt feel movements until about 21 weeks although I can definitely feel them now lol.

I have had other problems and am scheduled to be induced in just over 3 weeks. My pregnancy is consultant led so I would have thought she might have mentioned it if it was a real concern - especially with increased risk of c-section due to being induced

Is your placenta low-lying or does it say anywhere on your notes 'placenta praevia'? I think that can cause more of an issue as placenta can block the baby coming out so you would get more scans before birth to make sure it's not in the way. I could see how that could affect a section cut as you are cut quite low down but an anterior placenta would normally still be too high to be anywhere near where you would be cut in a c-section.

Hope you can get more information to put your mind at rest soon xx

I'm curious as to why your midwife is wanting to monitor you more. Feel like that could make a woman worry more than necessary.

I have a anterior high placenta and I'm not being monitored for it. I actually had to google it because at my scan they just told me where it was not if it was more difficult, less preferred etc. it wasnt an issue. They'd maybe want to check you if your placenta is low anterior, covering your cervix etc. But they'd have told you that I'm sure.

Movements I feel her mostly low down. Especially kicking my cervix, which isn't the nicest. If you're feeling him low sounds like your placenta is high or middle. Have a check at your notes or ring midwife. But dont worry about it hun. Birth isn't affected either

Ditto all the other posters. I have anterior placenta this time and it just meant I felt him a little late. I'll probably deliver early due to GD, but no mention of the placenta causing any issues.
