Good afternoon ladies.

TMI ahead:

I wouldn't say that i have loads of MS. In fact i may only vomit 1-2x per week (almost 13 weeks preggo, didn't start until 8 weeks). So i feel lucky with that (of course i have been nauseous a LOT).

Anyways, that was it... up until last night. I had a VERY violent, horrific vomiting episode last night. In fact i almost clogged the toilette up! That episode caused some mild bleeding to come up (nurse says it was from irritation of the esophagus when the food comes back up). Anyways my throat is still irritated, it caused my capillaries near my eyes to burst (nothing to worry about, but doesn't look pretty and is evidence of how much pressure and how violent the vomiting really was). And i ended up with a headache, jaw ache, and ear ache from it. (didn't have any of those symptoms until immediately AFTER the vomiting crisis).

Anyways, i had another episode today. Called the nurse (have had a head cold for the last week so that doesn't help). The nurse talked to the doc. They called in a prescription to decrease the severity of the vomiting. I have heard of lots of ladies being put on meds for severe MS. Just sort of side tracked because, up until yesterday, i have been pretty lucky with MS. Im thankful they gave it to me but was just wondering if anyone else had been placed on anything similar (anti-vomiting meds)? The particular one i was placed on is called "Ondansetron" and im to take it every 8 hours as needed. :flower:

Hey hon

I havent been taking mine as things have got better, but I was on mine 3 times aday. When I go upstairs I will check the name of them.

They did a great job

Thanks doll. I noticed a difference pretty quickly. That stuff is like heaven! What week were you able to stop taking it?

I took ondansetron for 3 months straight. It worked wonders for me. I am now 24 weeks pregnant and STILL on anti nausea/ vomiting medicine. I had SEVERE ms to the point where I was throwing up 30+ times a day and now I am down to just nausea and throwing up maybe once or twice a day if I don't take my medicine, which is now toprol.

Um I have them in the drawer just to take whenever, I believe they are safe to take the whole way through, forgot to get the name will have a look for you x

I am on Domperidone suppositories and cyclezine as i have has severe sickness, they take the edge off but still sick just not as much xx

oooh ondansetron is amazing its very rarely prescribed in the UK but I managed to get 7 tablets and what bliss! I've been on metroclopramide for quite a while now, it does take the edge off and if I forget a tablet I soon realise lol xxx

Nice

Yes, i would have to agree! I LOVE it! makes me feel like i can actually eat LOL
Anyways, is there a specific reason as to why they dont prescribe Ondansetron very much in the UK? I know its SUPER expensive, is that why or is there a medical reason?

Just calling in to wish you better,:cry: as that sort of sickness is horrible beyond belief. I know what you mean about blocked loos and blood - it's foul. I used to wet the bathroom floor by way of variety!

I'm glad they gave you something for it and I'm sure they wouldn't have prescribed it if it wasn't safe, as they are so nervous here in the UK of prescribing, yet they gave it to Kitty.

If it persists (and I hope to goodness it doesn't) just wanted to say theres a great thread for people with severe NVP on the site, the thread that nobody wants to be on 'Hyperemesis', where everyone's lovely and supportive, but I hope you don't need it.

Wish you better soon:hugs::hugs:

Hi hun I have been in promethazine which is a wonder drug and stopped me from throwing up enough to be able to eat. In my last pregnancy i was prescribed cyclzine and it didn';t do anything to help ease it and so got a prescription for the promethazine again.

This time round am hoping to avoid using any anti-sickness tablets but I have a feeling it won't be long as the nausea I had when I found out i was pg has turned into severe nausea and I know its only a matter of days before I am throwing up every 5 minutes.

Glad the tablets you are on are helping. x

Thanks for all of your advice ladies :friends:

Just wanted to update about my weight. Prior to the pill I had already lost 4 pounds (in about 3 weeks time). Within 2 days (the 2 days that led up to taking the meds) i lost 2 more pounds (1 pound per day). Thus far, 6 pounds lost. But now that i've been on meds for about 3-4 days, i have gained one pound back. Still 5 pounds in the hole, but at least its a start :winkwink:

Hope you ladies feel better soon. Was able to eat a lamb chop last night for Valentine's Day...was very scared the entire night that it would be coming back up. But nope, the meds came through :) Even though i have meds to help im still very cautious about eating. Can't believe that those 1-2 violent vomiting episodes placed so much fear in me!

I am so happy to hear that the sickness is under control and congratulations on the lamb chop. I hope you had mint sauce with it, too.

:hugs:

I think its a combination of being super expensive and that its just not that common a drug to prescribe. Some consultants can be a bit over cautious with it. It did take me some pleading to get it lol xxx

oooh you are lucky!! we only get Ondansetron (zofran) here via IV in hospital.... i was stuck on a combo of cyclazine, stematil & metchrolpromide, which did pretty much nothing for me!

I think i tried everything!! In the end the docs gave up as the tablets were making me drowsy and they thought they would effect the baby.

I did have sickness right the way through and didnt eat a meal for 5 months. I had to live of liquid as only thing i could keep down. I made loads of soups as i could manage them in small doses.

I was sick 5/6 times a day and during the night and i had gd so my sugars became uncontrolled ect so they delivered me slightly early for it all.

I hope you get it all sorted soon hun because it really isnt nice. :hugs:

i just spoke to my dr she said there is nothing she can give me for the sickness im confused now?

they only really do it as a last resort here. you need to have been confirmed with hyperemesis, and usually hospitalised for rehydration before you recieve any medication initially... they dont do it while it can still be classed as 'normal' pregnancy sickness...
i think there are weight loss criteria too, you have to have lost a certain percentage of your body weight too...
have you been in hospital yet? if so i would defo push for them!
its a last resort as although the medications dont normally effect our babies, they are still drugs, so taking any drug while pregnant is only advised when there is no other alternative
xx

Im not sure why she said there wasn't anything she could do. I wasn't every diagnosed (officially) with hypermesis. BUT i think the reason they prescribed it to me was because i was loosing weight a bit later (about 13ish weeks). I had "normal" MS from week 8-12 (was lucky that i didn't get it early, and at that point it wasn't bad). But as far as my case goes, i think they gave it to me because i was basically at the begining of the second trimester and was loosing weight at that point. (didn't start loosing weight until 12ish weeks). Of course, i will admit that since i am from the states, the seem to prescribe meds much more freely...damn western medications lol :haha:

Glad that its helping hun. I had to go to my doctor yesterday to be put on anti-sickness tablets as yet again I am suffering really badly. Managed to eat some toast this morning without bringing it back up and had spag bol for my tea again without bringing it back up so I am happy I am able to eat again. I have lost a bit of weight as all I have been able to stomach is lucozade and then the odd meal here and there.

This is my 5th time having hg and it seems to get worse with each pregnancy lol x

I am starting to feel sick again :(
I havn't taken the anti-MS meds for a day now. (gave me SEVERE constipation  almost had to get the ER for enema :shy:). Anyways, i was trying to stop taking it, but i feel like im gonna vomit again  think i'll take it, just praying for no large constipations stools (sorry TMI)
