Morning guys! :flower:

Was wondering if anyone could help me out please? I just received a letter from the hospital saying that they've found antibody E in my blood and that I need to carry a card around with me stating this and that if I'm ever in hospital throughout the pregnancy I need to let the Dr's know. I have just googled it and am still confused. I have read that peoples partners have blood tests and depending on the results of these depends on the course of action? What do the tests check for and what do the results mean for the mother? This is my 3rd pregnancy and it has never been detected before

My midwife isn't available until Thursday afternoon (I've made an appt to see her) so I don't want to drive myself crazy worrying unneccessarily until then.

Thanks

The antibody will either affect the baby or it won't- the test on dad is to see if baby is able to be affected. As in he has either given the baby the genetics to be susceptible or not. I'm not explaining that well but i hope you understand what i mean. Don't panic, the vast, vast majority of antibody problems lead to nothing. They monitor the baby and in general everything is fine. If the antibody does affect the baby they may want to transfuse the baby before it is born but from what i understand that is a rather simple procedure, scary to mum of course but they just use something like the amnio needle. If you look up antibody threads in the search bar above, you'll see all the answers i got when i was panicking about my anti-c level and i got some great info. Type in antibodies, anti-c, anti-e etc because it's all basically the same except for anti-d which can be fixed. I had really high anti c levels and now they are so low they can't measure them..they just went away.

thanks so much. I know i'm probably just being overly freaked out... but reading blood transfusion whilst still in the womb... is kind of a scary prospect, even if the odds are low and automactically got me thinking the worst. I should know better!!

I'll go and have a root around now and see what the threads pop up, thanks again :flower:

That's ok. And by the way, i absolutely wet myself when i started googling and reading those things!!! lol keep away from google and let your doctor tell you what is relevant to you :)
