Hey ladies. I am currently taking 7.5mg Remeron (Mirtazapine) and have been for a couple of years now. It's for anxiety and depression. 7.5 is lower than the lowest dose of 15mg (I've always cut my 15s in half to get the 7.5mg). My OBGYN wants to wean me off of it, but not until later on in pregnancy. I also take 5mg Ambien for sleep, and have been for a couple of years now, but am tapering off of that as well (was taking 10mg). Tonight I am going down to 2.5mg for a week or so, then trying to stop all together. My OBGYN didn't seem too terribly concerned when I approached her about this, just said I need to wean off of both meds to avoid withdrawal.

I know there is risk involved when taking any kind of meds during pregnancy, and I am freaking myself out Googling this stuff. I know the medicines' classes are both C, but I am looking more for ladies who have experience with this. Does anyone have a similar story and has gone on to have a healthy pregnancy? Likewise, have any of you ladies had bad experiences with pregnancy and these (or similar) medicines?

I've taken Wellbutrin during my first two pregnancies (class C) and had healthy babies....no issues! Still on it now too!

Good to know. Thank you! Glad you went on to have healthy little ones!

Anyone else? What about Ambien? Has anyone taken that during pregnancy?

I have taken prozac throughout the pregnancy with my son and intend to with this one x

Thanks, ladies! I feel a bit better about it now. I'm just so tired of worrying about every little thing! This is my first pregnancy so I am not sure what to expect at all!

Don't worry Hun. My specialist told me there fine xx

This will be the first pregnancy I am taking anti depressants , I was on mirtazapine (can't remember how much :dohh: ) and 150mg venlafaxine (don't know if I'm spelling it right :haha: ) when I found out I was pregnant I did a bunch of searching online and found that the mirtazapine isn't a big no but it hasn't been tested enough for doctors to say it's complete okay (if that makes sense?) and the venlafaxine is fine during pregnancy , when I went to see my doctor he confirmed that what I had read was right and if I wanted to continue on them I could but maybe lower the dosage a bit because in a doctors eyes there isnt enough reasearch to say they are connected with causing problems in babies but at the same time they don't want you on too high of a dosage while pregnant but at the same time they don't want you to suddenly come off them because as a doctor they are concerned for a mothers mental health as well as keeping baby healthy.

In the end I decided myself to come off the mirtazapine just because there isn't enough to say yes you can take this etc I don't know haha but I've stayed on the other anti ds but lowered them to 75mg as i know I need them to function! :haha: and like my doctor said it is very important to have a healthy mummy inside and out!

If I where you I would go to your doctor to ease your mind and air any concerns you may have and you's can come up with a plan together to help support you during this pregnancy and after with medication or any other way :flower:

I am on Citalopram (Celexa) at a very low dose (10mg)

It was a very tough decision but I suffer terribly without it and I don't want that kind of stress for me and my partner or for our baby. Honestly, I was an absolute wreck before I started this drug and never want to go back there.

:hugs:

Thank you Sarah and JumpingIn!

JumpingIn, I can relate. I need this medicine to function. The sleeping meds not so much, which is why I'm tapering off, but the antidepressant I definitely need. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will not affect anything. It would be much worse if I was having bad anxiety/depression while pregnant. No good for baby or DH...or me for that matter!

I took citalopram 10mg until 35 weeks then went to 20mg my son had no effects from them whatsoever. This time I have taken citalopram 10mg every other day until 13 weeks and now I'm taking them every day, taking as little as you can is the best you can do, I was so worried taking them the first time round.

I have taken Zoloft since I was 22 weeks. still a little nervous about them but the change in my attitude was unreal. I went from not being able to function to being, I dunno, normal. It was the best decision for me to take them.

I'm right there with you. My doctor is weening my medication down. I'm terrified of anything going wrong. I'm on Effexor ER, it's a class C as well, and it works wonders for my anxiety and depression disorder. I went on it after DS was born. It was a life saver. I was on the next to highest dosage and now I'm down to the next to lowest. My next step is the lowest, later on this week. Withdrawl symptoms are okay so far but I'm so scared of when i drop down.
