Any baby taking a daily allergy med?

My 6 month old is having some allergy symptoms - the doctor recommended daily zyrtec - but I'm not sure how I feel about my baby girl being on any medicine daily! Experience? Any risks I don't know about? Thanks!

My eldest suffers really bad with seasonal allergies (hayfever) and has done from a young age. During the worst months he's on a daily dose of antihistamine

I'm not sure what the active ingredient is in Zyrtec but you may find that it might not agree with her, the first antihistamines we had made DS very grumpy and drowsy, we then switched to a different type and he's fine with them. If she seems out of sorts don't hesitate to ask for a different type.

I hope they help, allergies suck!

At 7 months we had Piriton to try to deal with the itch of eczema (she couldn't sleep for scratching). It was hoped it'd make her drowsy enough to ignore her itch too. Didn't work - but I was happier trying the medicine than watching her suffer so badly.

I have not had to do this. If my baby had minor allergy symptoms, I would make my baby suffer through them. If the symptoms were a health risk or causing the baby to be miserable for weeks, I would give the medication.

Why would you make a baby suffer? As a fellow allergy sufferer I know how miserable even the slightest reaction can make me feel. I'd do anything I can to illeviate those symptoms in my babies

I'm an allergy sufferer as well. It's not pleasant, but a bit of allergies sure beats unknown effects of medications on a baby. There's a level at which I wouldn't give medication, a level at which I would waver back and forth on whether or not it's a good idea, and a level at which I would give it.
