Hi ladies, I'm 6 weeks pregnant. My last pregnancy ended at 8 weeks, a couple of days before my first midwife appointment would have been, so I have not yet booked my first appointment, I will wait until I am 7 weeks. I have seen a few people mention early scans and I would love to have one to put my mind at rest a bit. Is this something I can ask the midwife about since I've had a miscarriage in the past? Thanks x

Hi, very sorry about your mc.
If you book a gp appointment, they should hopefully be able to send you to the local epu (early pregnancy unit) for an early scan xx

Honestly, most doctors won't agree to early scans unless you have had three consecutive losses, an eptopic or molar pregnancy. I know ladies on here who have had to pretty much beg for early scans even after experiencing the above. It really does depend on your gp though, your epu and their individual policies, it varies depending on where you live. It can't hurt to ask though. Have you considered an early private scan. Most clinics offer them from 6-8 weeks and they usually aren't too expensive. Mine were £40 for the early scans. I've had a few on top of my nhs ones for reassurance. Good luck and hope you manage to get a scan be it an nhs or private one.

I have had two MMC in a row. The day after I found out I was pregnant for this third time I booked in with the midwife, then she booked me in with the early pregnancy unit when I was due to be six weeks for an early scan for peace of mind. It was an internal scan. The midwife did tell the unit I was cramping though (I wasn't but apparently if u are cramping or bleeding they will scan you)

Thanks for the replies. I thought it might be more for people who have had several losses or other complications. It's just that the waiting is very hard, I feel I can't get too excited about the pregnancy just yet. I would like a private scan so I'll look in to it. Thanks x

Hey Hun. I'm in the uk and I'm paying for a private scan.

Thanks again ladies, found a few places that do scans near me but prices are £95-£140! I would book. it in a heartbeat if I could find one for £40. I'll keep looking! Thanks x

There's a place only 2 miles from my home that does them. I had a gender scan with them with DS2 and I'm sure it was around £50 but I've checked now and all their scans are £99+ :nope:

Might be worth you checking Groupon. They do have ultrasound scan offers advertised, it just depends whether you are lucky enough for one to come up in your area.
