 Hi, my little girl been so poorly in the day and evenings with 'colic' symptoms  She is a serious bottom burper with lots on tummy pain and screaming and yelps, yet she always brings up her wind after a bottle, her wind and problems seem at the othe end, we use infacol reloigiously just incase. We changed her milk to Aptamil comfort and that helped some, she seems at least more settled during the day time, on Fri we were prescribed colief and we started using it, but sadly it's made no difference yet, her evenings are terrible!

The doctor mentioned other prescription milks, some lactose free, but I thought thats what the colief did. I am just looking for a ray of hope really :help: Has anyone tried colief without success but made the change to lactose free and found a difference?? I do think it's linked to a lactose problem for her as the comfort helped. Feel so sad, when my little girl is well she is such a happy baby, but she feels so rough we hardly ever get smiles and it's awful x Please respond if you can. And thanks to those who know me and have been trying to help!!

Hi I feel for you and what you are going through. I can't comment on lactose free milk but all I can tell you is what worked for my little girl. She had terrible wind too, mostly from her bottom and was crying for hours on end every day, drawing her legs up etc. Evenings were generally the worst but day time was pretty bad too. We tried everything, infacol, dr browns bottles, colicinth homeopathic granules and colief. In the end the only thing that gave her any relief was dentinox. It was a god send. That very same day there was a massive improvement and every day after that. She is now a happy content, smiling baby! I still give her dentinox a few weeks later but not in every feed. You can buy it in tesco and sainsburys and it only costs about £2.90. Wishing the best of luck. I know how awful it can be x

Thanks so much for replying. I have used dentinox a little bit yesterday and today because we ran out of infacol and I had a bottle of it, she hates the taste so I have been adding it her milk. I do think she has been a little more settled tonight, we had lots of tears but it seemed more to do with tiredness than pain...I Hope. Thanks so much. I think I will keep up with the dentinox for the rest of week rather than infacol (which I stocked up on earlier) and just see if it helps. :flower: x

Hi, sorry to hear that your LO is suffering. My little girl is 14 months old now and was diagnosed lactose intolerant at 9 weeks old. We were prescribed colief to try before she was seen by a paediatrician and had the test for the intolerance.

Colief only removes some of the lactose it doesnt remove all of it. With the colief you will probably see some difference but after a few days the colief alone isnt enough to remove enough lactose. We started Lactose free milk on the Friday evening and by the monday morning we had a completely different child. Her nappies were less vile, her wind was so much better and she was trumping less. Within a week she was like a normal happy baby.

The lactose free milk is worth a try, if lactose is the problem you will know within 3 days or so. The lactose free milks have all the nutrients and calories that normal formula contains it just doesnt have the nasty lactose in it. So dont worry that your daughter isnt getting enough, she will be.

Hope you manage to sort this out for your little girl. Ive been there and its not nice. Fingers crossed your sorted soon and your little girl improves.

Mumto be, which milk were you prescribed? I have a docs appointemnt at 5 x

We were prescribed Enfamil o-lac, it used to be called Enfamil lactofree so probably better to mention both names to them. It has omega 3 and 6 added to the formula.

When the hospital mentioned the 2 milks they prescribe, I googled them both and went for the enfamil. SMA do a milk called SMA L/F but I decided against this one as my daughter found SMA normal formula to thick and struggled with it.

Thanks hon, well my doc wasn't one bit interested in baby, it was my post natal appointment and at the last minute because of the weather I didn't take her, but I thought they would give me some advice, she just said 'it sounds like a feeding issue and i'm not a feeding expert, talk to you HV...but I would advise against changing milks agin, mums do that far too much'...and I missed baby clinic today, I could have brought her to it without an appointment  am going to phone them tomorrow. Like I would change babies milk without a damn good reason?? like she screams for hours in agony!! :nope:

That is so out of order of the doctor. The HV can't prescribe the milk, and the doctor should know that. Grrrr... doctors like that piss me off. It sounds like you are coming up against the same barriers we did.

I would ring your GP tomorrow and get an urgent appointment for baby. I find that when I ring and say "I need an appointment for my baby" they tend to make sure we get seen, even if they have to create a slot. If they ask if its an emergency (ours always seem to ask this), say YES!

If you want to chat more privately, send me a PM or add me as a contact :) I hope you get something sorted quickly.
