Since temping last cycle i have found out i only have a 9 day LP, so i started taking vit B6 for this cycle as i have been reading that it can help.
Since yesterday 5dpo i have been having AF cramps and all the other symptoms that go with it, clearly the vit b6 has not made a difference.
It's not possible for inplantation to happen if i feel that's she's already starting to make an appearance.
I have a doctors app this afternoon about short LP, and am i right in thinking that today is the best day to check my progesterone levels and will they do it at the doctors or will they send me to a see a fertility specialist.
I really don't want to waste anymore time than needed as i really think this is my main problem not conceiving.
My temps look lower than they should and have already started getting even lower and i also suffer with really bad constipation after ovulation right through to AF arriving , which i think are symptoms of low progesterone.
Am i right in what i am saying and does it look to you ladies that this maybe my problem.
Any advice would be great as i really don't want to go in the doctors and make no sense and hit a brick wall, that feels like what i am doing at the minute.

Hi tweetypie - increasing your LP from 9 days is definitely a good idea. I have the same problem as you.

I've read on another thread that it's best to take the B6 in combo with all the other Bs, so to take a B50 or B100 tablet. B vits seemed to help me earlier in the year, moving ov earlier; but lately they've not been helping.

From what I've read, the best time to have a progesterone test is 7dpo, so you're in good time to have one. I had mine done at a fertility clinic, but maybe some GPs do them (mine doesn't do any tests of any kind). What country are you in? I'm in the UK.

When I went to my GP about my short LP, I hit a brick wall - he wouldn't help me at all, thought the idea of supplementing with progesterone to extend LP was 'my theory' but that I should just leave everything to 'nature'. So he wouldn't prescribe me progesterone supplements. (It gues it's understandable, he's not a fertility expert. If your GP is similar, maybe they could refer you to gynecologist or fertlity clinic, who might be more aware of this issue.)

I am not one to leave things to nature if I think they're not right, so I ordered some progesterone cream online (now I use Serenity, but I've seen Progest from Amazon recommended too), using appx 1/4 tsp morning and eve (to equal apprx 90-100mg prog). It does seem to give me extra days on my LP by extending my cycle, giving a potential beany a chance to implant.

If you ever did supplement with progesterone, it is vital that you never miss a dosage up to 14dpo or AF; if you make it to 14dpo, do a preg test, and stop prog if negative. If you did get a bfp, you'd then need to carry on taking it consistently until at least 12 weeks (then check with your midwife/doctor); any drop in progesterone before this time could have disastrous results.

Good luck with the LP and may your BFP come v soon! x

Firstly congratulations on your BFP :hugs:
Thankyou for your great advice it obviously worked for you :happydance:... i am feeling more hopeful now that you have given me some information.
I am due at the doctors in half hour, i will post back to you later and let you know how i get on. F'xd she takes me seriously i know what they can be like, they don't always understand what you are going through and age is not on my side. I am 39 and OH is 47. I really thought i would be pregnant by now  xx

Hi Ya...

Just wanted to add my experiences of having a 8 day luteal phase - finding that B6 complex doesn't nothing to help extend it...

I also went to the doctors who sent me to a NHS Fertility specialist - all felt that short luteal phase was not a problem and that I should be able to conceive with a 8 day phase!!

Well - I have been trying for over a year now and it hasn't happened - so I feel that it is part of the problem to why I can't conceive - as well as turning 40 in June - and having older eggs and lower fertility etc etc..... and really want someone to listen to me - Short Luteal Defect is recognised in abroad - but seems the UK health system does not!!

Anyway to cut long story short - I have paid to see a private FS in the hope that he might be able to a bit more sympathic to my Short Luteal Phase Defect and hopefully suggest some possible solutions!

I will keep my fingers crossed that you have more luck with your Doctor - will be interested to see your feedback!

Just got back from the doctors, but i am having mixed feelings about the outcome, feel like i could cry to be honest.
Anyway this is what she said.
According to the doctor temping and opks are not accurate so therefore i couldn't possibly have a proper idea of my LP, which is now frustrating me. It's too much of a coincidence to have a temp drop and a +opk so i think she's talking rubbish.

I told her that i am on CD21, i thought maybe she would be able to do CD21 bloods but just my luck they don't do any bloods on a thurs afternoon, so i am having it done on Monday but if AF arrives before then they will do CD1-5.
She has also arranged a sperm test for OH, he's gonna love me lol.

If we do have a problem she will then refer us to a fertility specialist, but FX'd we don't have to go down that road.

She said the b6 wouldn't do any harm if i carry on taking them but also said that she did'nt think it made any difference to LP. I have been taking it with pregnacare which also has b12 in it, so i think that should be ok.

Whether or not B6 will help depends on why your LP is short in the first place. If you're estrogen dominant or have too high prolactin levels, B6 will likely help. Women taking BCPs tend to have a B6 deficiency so it's usually a good idea to start with a B-complex. I know it helped mine increase from 11 - 15 days in the first cycle taking it, but that's likely because mine was probably from a B6 deficiency from being on the pill for nearly 20 years.

With that being said, I've seen charts of women with short LPs get pregnant.

I don't mean to diss your doctor - but I think that statement is utterly false! OPKs measure the LH surge that triggers ovulation, so you can predict the timing of ov within a day or two. Ie it's highly unlikely that ov would have taken place before the LH surge, leaving you with a longer-than-you-thought LP.

I am like you with a short LP of approx 10 days. Last month I started taking Vit B6 and my LP appeared to go up to 14 days....yippee! I'll see what this cycle brings.

Today I have been into town and purchased CoEnzyme Q10 and Maca Powder, which are both supposed to be excellent for fertility. I'm hoping the Q10 will strengthen the quality of my eggs.

Last week I went for a blood test as I wanted my Progesterone checking. I had it done on day 21 but I'm sure that is only the right day if you OV on day 14 with a 28 day cycle. According to Duo Fertility I OV'd on day 11 last month so I think I should have had the test done on day 18????? No results back yet but I'm guessing my doc won't prescribe Prog cream so I'm thinking of getting it off the net. I'm willing to try anything, We've been trying for 5 years without even a sniff of a pregnancy.

We've had all the fertility tests (inc Lap and Dye for me and SA for him) and we're both "fine" but have been diagnosed with "unexplained infertility".

Look into Instead Soft Cup's and Pre-seed lubricant (https://www.babyandbump.com/trying-to-conceive/173508-softcups.html?highlight=soft+cup). Also, for progesterone cream- see this thread (post #13- https://www.babyandbump.com/trying-...-help-short-luteal-phase-mc.html#post13162269).

Thanks guys for your advice.
Since i ovulated i have been having AF symptoms, backache, leg cramps, pains in stomach and both sides. The same thing happens every month, how will i possibly get pregnant if my body is already gearing up for AF, and especially with having a LP of 9 days. I did think it was ovulation pain but it wouldn't last this long.
I said on an earlier post that i am having cd21 or cd1-5 bloods done monday (whichever comes first ) but like some-one else posted i thought you had to be 7dpo, i will be 10 dpo, therefore it's going to be incorrect isn't it ?

Actually, I think I read that 7 dpo is based on progesterone being the highest halfway through a 14-day luteal. If yours ends in 9 typically days, then they may want to/should test 4-5days dpo.

congratulations Starsign :happydance::happydance::happydance:

That's just what i thought, i'm not so sure the doctor knows what she's talking about.

I have a feeling AF will be arriving before then but if not i will have a word with the nurse about it.

I hopefully get my results back next week from my 21cd blood test. I know for sure that I wasn't 7dpo so I'll get you know what my doctor says.

pls pls read this:

many examples of fertile women with short lp. Mine was 9 days and I had no problems at 35.
