Wasn't sure wether to post this in the bf section or this one but thought it more apt to post here.

Lewis was exclusivley bf up until 2 weeks ago when we decided to top him up with formula as my body couldn't keep up with his demands and it meant he was constantly hungry because my boobs couldn't produce enough milk quick enough and I was one ehausted unhappy mumma. So now I still bf but he has top ups of formula during the day.

Anyone else mix feeding? x

Me! I mix 2 oz of bm with 2 oz of formula for her bottles. My milk supply is decreasing so the formula helps a lot

I used to be an exclusive expresser and then did combo feeding.

Me, i wanted to BF but Niamh ended up in special care with jaundice and i couldent express enough to flush it out of her system so shes bf and then topped up with expressed milk and formula.

We've got one hungry baby so when he is really going for it and I can't keep up dh gives him some formula late at night - it's the only way I'd get any sleep and it settles him. It's also really nice that dh can have that time and get used to settling him etc

Thanks ladies we tend to give him a 4oz bottle in the morning and 4 before bed and if he is hungry after a bf during the day he then has a top up of 2oz after. Its done him good though as hes more content and hes gaining weight better now too so makes me feel better knowing hes getting enough. x

I did this with all my children, but be careful it can mess with your supply.

i just started on this path.

my lo gets booby when he wakes up in the morning, then 3 x 6oz bottles during the day (and booby is he wants it), the bottles are 3oz fm and 3oz bm mixed together.

at your babys age he was drinking about 3-4oz of bm at a time.

make sure you pump when he gets given a bottle to keep your supply up.

I am. She has one feed breast one feed formula. I'm very lucky my supply is currently enough on a whole. I feel the combined feeding has been a life saver for us, I was ready to totally give up breast feeding at 10 days now at nearly a month she is still getting the benefits of some breast milk.

I exclusively BF for 3 months, but had to switch to combo feeding due to low milk supply leading to failure to thrive at the time. Gabriel has come a long way since then and we are still combo feeding.

thats exactly what happened to me but at 4 months.

I bf during the day and give LO formula for her last feed at night, she got too fussy at the breast just before bed so that's why we started that! I express when she is asleep then so I have a bottle of EBM in the fridge for just in case :) xx

I combo feed too. My lo had a posterior tongue tie and high palette that went undiagnosed for 3 months, and I also had persistent thrush for about 11 weeks, mastitis and cracked nipples that have only just healed!!

I express all of lo's feeds during the day and give a bottle of formula at night, as my supply doesn't cover that extra bottle. I used to feel bad about it but now just feel really blessed that I've managed to provide him with my milk for this long and like you say, you just gotta do what's best for you and lo at the time...

Good luck.:hugs:

x

Me too! Max is a hungry baby so the formula top ups helped us alot. I express too!
