Just wanted to know really, i always wanted a september baby as my first was an august baby and being the youngest in class hasn't always been easy. Noone can believe in school that i didn't plan this!!! When do u plan to go on maternity leave? I am going to start mine the first day back in school in september, hoping to have whole academic year off, but my lea's maternity package is crap, what is yours like???
Would love to hear from any teachers who are roughly 12 weeks, see how your coping with the demands of teaching lol

Hey hun!

I'm not a teacher, but wanted to say hi.
I was in my 2nd year of a BA QTS Primary Teaching and ICT course when I fell pregnant with DD. I have to withdraw from my placement because the school said they weren't insured to have me there, and the class I was in, I spent most my time falling asleep because it was that boring.
I was supposed to re-do my placement this year, but I'm expecting #2 and TBH my university is a complete waste of time so DH and I have spoke about it, and once this one is 1 and DD is 2, I'll be going to college to do a TA course, and work my way up that way.
I know how demanding a teachers life can be, and I don't want to do that, and miss out on a lot of DDs development and growth, so hopefully if I can qualify as a TA I'll have a bit more time to spend with the LOs.
Are you Primary or Secondary?

Hope you're OK, and GL :hugs:

Hi I am a teacher and due on 25th September. Like you I am hoping to start maternity on first day back in September, it's what I was hoping would happen so I get extra 6 weeks off for the summer paid! I didn't know maternity was different in different LEAs, I thought it was this for everyone.
4 weeks: full pay (including SMP)
2 weeks: 90% pay (including SMP)
12 weeks: 50% pay plus flat rate SMP
21 weeks: Flat rate SMP
13 weeks: unpaid
I am struggling to cope with work to be honest. I am done in by lunchtime and have no energy to do my leadership jobs etc How about you?

Hi ladies,
I am not actually due until the beginning of October so I am really unsure as to when I should start maternity leave? It seems a bit silly to go back for a couple of weeks for the start of the new term but then I dont want to limit the time I have with the little one! Obviously not as good a planning as you guys!!! Re: being tired... oh my god, I am so struggling at work, I actually had Fri off as I just couldn't cope any longer, I am sooo tired come the afternoon, to the point that I am leaving School when the children do, coming straight home and going to bed! I work with 4/5 year olds, so I am on the go all the time! It gets easier in the second trimester doesn't it?
Fingers crossed for healthy pregnancies anyway!

Hi ktp, are you a reception teacher? I am too so know what you mean about being on the go all day! I am pretty much leaving when the kids do too, and not getting any other work done which is starting to pile up and I am starting to stress! I feel like a naughty child who hasn't done their homework!

I'm a teacher and due 8th Sep with my third. My first is an angel :( and my second is nearly 10 months old. I am also really shattered as I work full time. It is hard the strains of being pg and a teacher as well. I look forward to getting to know you all. I'm also going to start my maternity leave first week back in Sep. You can't blame us for playing the system.

love Charlotte

Hi

I am a teacher and I am due not till Nov, I am only 4/5 weeks pregnant and I am exhausted. I plan to go on maternity at Oct half term and then go back about 4 weeks before the summer hols, that way I get paid full pay over the summer.

As you know in school there is always a surprise around the bend!! The day I found put I was pregnant and I was on :cloud9:, 4 hours later I found out OFSTED:growlmad: were coming into the school next week.

I had a major breakdown:cry: in work on Friday and they SLT have been fab. I have been told which of my lesson will be observed and I only have to plan for them.

After Wednesday I can official enjoy my pregnancy!!

Hi all!

I'm doing my PGCE - I've started my second placement which runs from Feb till mid-june, so I guess i'm just going to finish then. I'm due on 12th Sept.

Problem is, as i'm not technically employed, I won't get any maternity pay whatsoever - I'll just be classed as unemployed after July.

I take over a 15 lesson timetable next week, and i'm sat here at the moment trying to plan. It's awful - I'm so tired and just can't get around to doing my uni essays too - god knows how i'll do them at the same time as the endless cycle of marking / planning etc.

xXx

Hi,

I'm a teacher too and not due until Novemeber. I also plan to go on maternity at Oct half term and return before Summer hols. Have you told your HT then flimsey? I'm not sure when I should tell mine.

Hi. I am a reception teacher who is newly pregnant- 5 to 6 weeks so will be due in oct/Nov. I have told my HT but no one else as I had a silent miscarriage last July so am extra cautious this time. If all goes well then I will start Maternity leave a few weeks into the term as I want the most time with the baby so don't want to use the leave for the summer hols!

Is the general consensus that you should let your ht know asap? I wasn't planning on telling anyone until after scan, but keep thinking I should let ht know as she is planning classes for next year and who will take what stage. Me being pregnant might affect this.

Hello all,

I'm a reception teacher too! I'm 11 weeks on Monday and due 22nd Sept so like lots of you won't be going back after the summer holidays so will start maternity leave then, as don't think my head teacher will want me for just a week..also would prob have to do supply in classes and as i'm down the 'little' end of the school don't fancy supply for years 5&6!!

I'm in the same tiredness boat as everyone..glad to hear others are feeling the same because I had started to feel sooooo guilty about work mounting up, but just haven't got the energy to do it!!

Has anybody had to deal with sickness while at school? Touch wood I've only been sick twice and nobody was about!!

Stargirl 69 - I told my head at about 5 weeks and wish I didn't, she has been really nice and checks how I am but she doesn't check to make sure nobody is about and my TA was in our store cupboard last week when she started asking about my scan dates and stuff :0( She also really wants me to tell people but I don't want anyone to know till after the scan. It's hard at this time of the year isn't it whith class arrangements..are you likely to get moved? That might be hard coming back from Mat leave into a new class if they do change you. Let us know what you decide hun..

Sorry flimsey that you've got OFSTED coming..goodluck!! Countdown to next weekend begins..shame you can't have a celebratory sip of wine when they leave..try a wine gum!! :haha:

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend..

At the moment I'm staying the same. I feel guilty for not telling her. But to be honest I don't know how she'll react. I'm a bit scared to tell her.

I told the DH she is was part of our dept before she became part of the SLT, so I can talk to her about anything. I had no choice to tell her, after she found me in tears with my HOD. She hasn't told the HT (even thou I am not bothered he is lovely). She said she will tell inspectors when they come for H&S and mental health issues. She is lovely and her and HOD have been totally supportive.

I am a secondary teacher and am due on 3rd September. I am hoping to start my maternity leave at the start of the autumn term so just hope that baby doesn't come early. I found the first 2 months really tough as felt very sick and constantly tired but am pleased to say that things have got much better in the last couple of weeks.

Good luck with OFSTED flimsey. I know just how you feel. We are expecting them any day and keep having meetings to remind us (like we could forget!) Then again, we have been expecting them 'any day' since september.

Hi there,

I am a year 2 teacher and due 12th October. I plan to return to school after the summer holidays for 4 weeks before going on maternity leave. One question I have is that I am currently a NQT and by the time the baby is born I will have completed 1 academic year 11 weeks before the baby is born (to get the full maternity package) but not a calendar year. Does anyone know which it has to be to get the full package?

I am feeling exhausted and a bit unenthusiastic about planning, marking etc... at the moment!

I wasn't sure if all LEAS were the same, obviously they are. My friend works for the prison service and will be getting 6 months full pay, jammy so and so. I'm a year one teacher so i can sympathise with those who work in early years or key stage one, i think any kind of teaching is tiring though even when your not pregnant!
I told my HT and colleagues quite early on as i wanted them to be understanding if i needed anytime off etc plus wanted head to be aware for health and safety reasons. They have all been really good and loked out for me. I'm starting to get a little more energy as i'm heading for the second trimester but those first few weeks were really hard and all i wanted to do was sleep!! Hard when you already have a child, my OH has been fab though so i can't complain.
Just a quick question, can u finish your maternity leave at the start of the summer hols? I'm sure i read that u can start and finish ur maternity leave anytime it doesn't have to be in term time, just reading some of your posts made me think that this wasn't allowed as some of you are going back a couple of weeks before the summer term ends.

I'm a secondary school teacher - technology - so I'm busy all day. I'm not due till the middle of October, so I'm wondering whether I'll go back in September, seems a bit pointless. I haven't told anyone at work yet, although I'll need to do that soon because my first midwife appointment is the week after next.
I'm just constantly exhausted and have no energy!

I think the general consensus is that people go back for a week or two just before the start of the summer holidays? Thats what I've seen most people do anyway!
I'm due 5th September, so plan to start my maternity leave as of the first day of the autumn term too (which I believe is the 1st). Seems like the logical thing to do!

Hi all I'm not a teacher but a cover supervisor in a secondary school. I think I am due on 24th Sept so plan to start my maternity on the first day of autumn term which is the 6 th sept. I am very sick so it has been tricky especially doing cover 5 periods a day !! I am very tired too which has been difficult I didn't want to tell anyone till 12 weeks but I am showing so people have started guessing lol.
