Anyone have any insight or thoughts about this? They are installing new carpets this week at my work. I work up one flight of stairs from where the carpet will be, but once a day I will have to spend two hours or so in the area with the new carpets.

I am finding conflicting information online about carpet glue and whether it can be dangerous for a fetus at this stage. I will be calling my doctor tomorrow to see what they think, but I thought I'd see what people here thought, too.

I just don't want to be in a situation where my baby could be harmed. Any thoughts?

My basement got recarpeted when I was newly pregnant last time. I left for the installation, but after that I wan't too concerned. We aired out the house after the installation too.

I think once the glue has dried, there are less fumes to be inhaled, but I would probably steer clear of the place during installation if there isn't good ventilation between floors. If it gets really thick I don't think anyone should be there, honestly.

I don't know if industrial glue would be different, but it may be worth asking your doctor, or the carpet people. They should have WHMIS (workplace hazardous materials information sheets) or something similar on all the chemicals they use.

Thanks, Sheldon's. It seems they are doing the actual installation overnight so maybe it will be aired out enough by morning to be safe.

Just an update-- my doctor called back and said there is no danger to the baby. The biggest concern is whether the fumes make me sick or lightheaded. They are willing to write me a note to get me out of work, if needed.

I'm planning on working, but staying out of the newly carpeted area as much as possible. I'll leave early if I can't handle the smell or something.

That's good, I remember the fumes were pretty intense but faded quickly after installation. I don't know how the installers stay on their feet lol

I have the same thing at work right now and I don't want to go there during these works.

The right decision. Our house is also being renovated now and I decided to go live with my parents for a while. I come there from time to time but spend most of my time away from home. The renovation is almost finished and the second floor remains to be renovated. I recently found feldco and realized that I would like to change the doors and windows in our bedroom. I never thought that renovation would be so difficult. It takes a lot of money and time.
