My cat Bo came in on Sunday morning limping from her rear left leg. Putting no pressure on it at all.

I couldn't see anything obvious (nothing stuck in the pad, no broken skin etc) she let me look and touch it, didn't seem bothered by it at all. She is totally fine in herself apart from the leg. She still comes on laps for cuddles and is eating fine.

Her paw is quite swollen and she licks it a lot.

I took her to the vet on Monday and she wasn't sure if it was broken/fractured or damage to the pad. Again, at the vets Bo was totally fine. Let the vet look and prod around and even started rolling over for a tummy rub lol

She prescribed and anti inflammatory and a pain killer taken once a day with her food. This has done nothing at all. She is no different and still bares no weight on the leg.

Vet now wants to X-ray under anaesthetic but this will cost a fair amount.

I'm just not sure tho, she doesn't seem in any pain at all so wondering if it really could be broken or fractured?

Obviously I will take her back to the vet but wondering if should get a 2nd opinion?

What do u think??

Did the vet shave the leg? When we got our cat he was limping and there was nothing obvious on the leg, no broken skin etc but turned out he had an old healed cat bite on his leg that was infected under the skin and 4 days of antibiotics from the vet sorted him out.

No she didn't shave it but said they will shave it when they X-ray. Do you think I should get them to shave before?

It can't hurt, there might not be anything there but it's worth trying anything, I hated seeing booboo limping even though he was otherwise good in himself.

I would get them to clip it before they x-ray if she will let them (a lot of cats won't without sedation) but if she's no better with an anti-inflammatory then the next step would usually be an x-ray. Has she had any antibiotics in case it is an abscess?
I'd go back to the vets and ask them what you've asked here tbh and go from there.

Took her back yesterday is a notices she ha a large oozy lump which turned out to be an abscess which the vet popped and she is walking now!

Thanks for replies x

Glad she's doing better, it can take a while for an abscess to 'brew' enough to be able to lance and drain. She should be much more comfy now bless her.

So glad to hear that the source of the problem was found! Happy ending! Yay! :)
