Hi ladies.

My husband and I are looking into boys names and really like Euan. My husband is looking for a Welsh name and we had thought that Iwan was the Welsh spelling, but there's conflicting information on the Internet. Some sites say that it's pronounced the same as Euan, other sites say it is pronounced 'eye wan'. I'm hoping there are some Welsh ladies out there or those with experience with the name who can help us out.

Thanks ladies! Xx

I'm Welsh and if I saw 'Iwan', I would pronounce it the same as Euan. I don't think I've ever heard Eye-Wan and live in a fairly Welsh area, including going up in to the hills/farms etc where they have super welsh names!

I checked with my Mum who also said Ewe-An, so hopefully that helps with a second opinion!x

Thanks hun. There's so much conflicting info online. I even looked it up on YouTube and they pronounce it all different ways on there as well x

Thanks for double checking. I would hate to name our little one and find out 20 years later we've been pronouncing it wrong! Xx

No problem :) Yes can imagine that would not be much fun!x

I would think it's more "yew-an" or "ew-an" (Like Ewan) not "eye-wan"?

Iwan is pronounced the same way as Euan :) I'm Welsh and would never think of it as eye-wan. As soon as I read Iwan I read it the same way as Euan :) x

I also agree, iit's def Ewe-an not Eye-wan.
Although Ieuan would be pronounced Y-eye-an.

I would say you-en...perhaps the internet has it confused with Ieuan, pronounced yay-an. Taught a kid at school with this name and even I got it wrong first time, he corrected me...oops!

They are all pronounced the same - it's just the spellings. Iwan is the Welsh spelling and I think Euan is Scottish.
