Hi!

DH and I are both 26, fit and healthy. We have been together for 8 and a half years and married nearly 3 years.

We have been TTC for 15 months with no luck. :baby:

We have been referred to a fertility specialist and found out I have pcos and I have been put onto metformin, and otherwise I am very fertile. My egg reserve is very high.

DH has low sperm count due to swollen veins which cause his testes to heat up. The doctor wasn't very optimistic, all though DH sperm count is on the higher of the low end, at 34million.

The doctor said we could conceive on our own, but it isn't too likely. He has said our next step is IUI or IVF, and said IVF would be quicker and have a higher chance of success. We are booked in for next month to start the whole process.

It's definitely been a roller coaster. Excited, hopeful, the crushing despair each month when we don't get a BFP. Even worse when AF went missing for three months. Finding out I have problems, gettin them fixed and thinking we have a chance again.. Then finding out DH has a problem...

But here we are, and ready to make our dream a reality.

Anyone else in a similar situation for number one? Would love some friends to talk to :)

Thanks and good luck to everyone xx

When the doctor suggest ivf, I must admit I didn't take it in. I thought, ok so we have a low sperm count, that's easy fix we can increase it somehow. Very easily done... So I asked what can we do to increase it, his reply was not much. He said medication is being tested, but hasn't been released yet. Then he said some men have taken menevit for a few months and have seen improvement, but that may or may not happen.

I then said well, can we conceive on our own, and he said we might but it isn't likely.

We are writing down questions to ask when we go in for the ivf. It's so much to take in.

Hi. I am 25 and DH is 32. We have been trying for 10 months now. We went to see a fertility specialist 3 weeks back and found out that my husband has a low sperm count of 3 mill and morphology of 2%. Our doctor is confident that we can increase my hubby's sperm count. He is taking Staminogro, sperm aid and starts with his first round of HcG injections tomorrow. I have also been making his shakes with a tsp of Maca. I will let you know in 5 weeks what our results are. Our doctor said he would rather try treat the problem and we conceive naturally before ICSI (IVF where they inject the sperm) Best of luck to you!!

Is what your dh has classified as varicocel veins? My dh had varicocel veins and had a procedure done by a urologist that didnt fix our problem, but I have seen it help some people. Maybe get an opinion from a urologist?

I'm 24 and my OH is 25. We've been trying to conceive for 17 months.

His sperm was good, well very good actually which I haven't heard the end of from him!

I'm going through testing at the moment. My blood test was normal for ovulation so all looks good from there so think next step is a test to see if fallopian tubes are blocked or not.

Thanks for the replies ladies

I did think about the surgery, but that's more money and time again, and no guarantees :( we will see a urologist but will probably go ahead with ivf anyhow for now.

Good luck with your testing! I did the tube testing, and from what I heard I expected it to by painful, but it wasn't. More just icky and uncomfortable so don't stress. Let us know how you go :) xx

Thanks,we are starting a high fertility diet and going to eat super healthy until our first ivf. If the first ivf doesn't work we will take a break and try on our own, and move to usa from Australia (we planned to move in January...), then maybe try IUI in usa... If still no luck we will probably fly back to Australia and do another round of ivf.. Fingers crossed though.

My dream is we get a bfp before the ivf :( but I doubt it.

I just wrote the longest post, my ipad froze and i lost it. Darnit!

Follow my journal!

Im 26, dh 25 we are on our 11th cycle. I have mild endo. Dh has had two sa done one being 24 mil and the next being 42 mil. These are both considered average.. Your dh would be average too. You need 20 mil to be considered able to conceive.

Keep in mind it tkes three months for sperm to fully develop. So any supplements they take wont show an affect or three months. I started my dh on vit c, zinc and omegas. All have shown o be effective in improving sperm. Zinc being the most important.

Just yesterday my re diagnosed me with unexplained infertility because he saud the same thing.. There is nothing that is a big red flag as to why it hasnt happen and given all the time in the world, eventully i should conceive naturally. But im not willing to wait forever and in my town they only run the linic certain times of year.

Ill be started medicated IUI in january if I dont fall pregnant before then. They will only allow me three attempts at IUI so after that if I wasnt successful my next option would be IVF. Im starting with IUI because its only 1/10 of the cost.

As far as the sperm goes, get your dh on folic acid and zinc. Zinc will help increase his sperm production and folic acid will help them form correctly. I had dh on both for two months prior to our bfp. I was on clomid so I'm sure that helped too, but I just wanted to throw out an inexpensive suggestion.

I just saw your dhs count, thats a really good number. My dh averages 3 mill with 33 percent motility. But we were always told that 20 mill was good. You guys for sure have a shot!

DH and I are 25 and 24 respectively, and I was diagnosed with PCOS. We've been trying for about a year, and in that time I've experienced everything from a period every two months to periods every two weeks. I still don't even know if I've been ovulating (I have a varied sleep schedule making temping unreliable, and something usually comes up where I can't use ovulation tests reliably every day).

DH hasn't had any testing done yet, mostly because I want to get my issues sorted out to see if that will improve things any. I've been taking Metformin, which has really helped so far. I've been losing weight, and I'm really hoping that this cycle is a normal cycle.

Has anyone else here had people discount their struggles because "you're young, you've got lots of time"? I've heard it from a couple of people. It's kind of rough to hear that from someone who is older and TTC, only to find out that they got pregnant right away and you're still hoping.

Firefly,

I'm 27 and my DH is 30. I am undergoing fertility right now, and although I don't tell many people about it...I will get that response from people. I think sometimes...people don't really know what to say, so they try to stay positive...I don't think people really understand how frustrating it is...especially when loads of our friends have children, and some of them got pregnant their very first cycle off of birth control... Hopefully all our efforts will be worth it!
