Ahh!!! I am going to a free standing birth center and it is a one hour drive away (on a nice summer day and no construction). Well, i live in coastal New England (USA) and February (the month i am due!) is THE WORST winter month of the year! Im nervous about trekking through bad roads and im thinking it would take longer than an hour in the winter...what all are you doing about this possibility of bad roads? Im worried about roads being closed, or the weather just being way too bad to go anywhere...i have no trouble with the idea of giving birth on my own, i firmly believe in being able to do so, but i dont like the prospects of a long (and maybe dangerous) car ride that could slow my labor down...i had a 30 hour labor with DS and i am petrified to have another long birth, so i dont want to do anything to impede the progression of labor...there is a hospital within 10 min of my house, but i flat out refuse to go back there unless there is a medical reason to do so...i delivered my son there, and tbh, i do not trust them....anyways, im ranting now  thoughts? Anyone else in a similar situation?

The hospital I have to go to is an hour away. I work an hour away, and my insurance is through work so I have to use the hospital near my work for it to be covered. I delivered my son there too, but he was induced so I didn't have a problem. I will not be induced this time, and I'm determined to stay at home as long as possible. I just worry if I stay home too long that the distance will become an issue.

yeah...im concerned about the bad winter roads :( ...lucky you wont have that problem! lol

My hospital was an hour away, it was the only hospital my dr delivered at. I made a route plan ahead of time luckying, if you want to say that, I went into labor at 3am so the roads were pretty clear.

yeah, but what about ice/snow/freezing rain? thats my concern :( ugh. i picked a bad month to decide to get pregnant :haha:

if ur concerned express it to your doctor, they may be willing to induce a week earlier than expected if ur okay with it. However, you still may go in to labour before hand... U just got to take it one step at a time, its hard. I may have a 2 hour drive depending if we decied to deliever in the city instead of hear, as im not found of the doctors.

Also does your insurance cover ambulances? if it does, you might be able to do that for the hour drive. Because if your not comfortable traveling it will probably make your labour worse.

I am seeing a MW at a FSBC...i am not one for induction, I believe in the natural process, and she can't do it anyways since she its a free standing birth center....i would never agree to an induction unless it was really medically necessary...so that wont work :nope: but thanks :flower:
