Hello there,

Ive introduced myself here before about a month ago. But now things have gone from bad news to worst news

I have been trying for no.3 for a year now with no success. I was given the depo shot nearly a year and half ago and i must say its been the worst decision ive ever made.

To add to the depo problem i was also told that i had CIN3 results from an abnormal smear test. I have undergone treatment for that, by which i mean they removed part of my cervix to stop the spread of the pre cancerous cells.

I went to my doctors around a month ago to see if i could get any help. I told him that i think i have not fallen pregnant due to depo and to make matters worse the removal of part of my cervix. He told me that he would try and refer me to a fertility specialist and we'd go from there. Well about a week after that appointment he wrote to me that West Sussex will not and do not fund for secondary infertility AT ALL. Not even a 21day blood test. I was so crushed.

To add insult to injury the idiot gave me a 7 page letter telling me how i should be having sex and that my husband should avoid wearing tight undies. ETC. Hmmmmm i think i have explored every way possible to try and conceive and he throws that in my face. I was so angry.

I cant help but think theres an underlying problem and they wont even explore any other problems that i may (or may not) have.

I was just wondering if theres anyone else out there that can give me some advice about what to do next. Going back to my doctors is not an option, but i am on soy to see if that helps. Im slowly losing weight. although i dont personally feel i should have to lose weight and i eat healthily. The only problem were working on is that my hubby smokes.

So is there anyone else out there thats been refused help and is having to try on their own??????????????

:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

What about writing to your local Primary Care Trusts? I know a lot of PCTs won't fund any treatment for secondary infertility - i won't be eligible for any assitance if we are able to have one child and all tests will also have to be self funded.

If you write to your PCT asking for assistance and your concerns that there is an underlying cause then at least you have gone right to the top.

I know that for most NHS PCTs funding is so tight for any sort of infertility exploration and so they tend to reserve the money for those with primary infertility to get them on the ladder.

Good luck x

sounds awful hun :hugs:

i agree with rachelle, go to your pct. good luck x

Hallo,

You're not far from me, Im in Worthing. I've been seeing a FS at Goring hall. He's amazing and very pro active and it isnt all that expensive, just a thought.
I was having the same problems with my GP and I wish id gone private sooner :-)

Good luck x

Hi Kayleigh,

Terribly sorry to cut up your post but it seems your in the same position as I am...

I've recently come off Depo and have been dealing with CIN 2-3 and VAIN 2-3 for the past 8 years... To me, the CIN / VAIN stuff is now so routine "Another Colposcopy? hey, a day off! )

I truly wish you the best of luck in all aspects of your life xx

I undstand how you feel, i have a 10 year old DD by my ex and me and my DH have been properly ttc for over 3 years, i was lucky to get as far as i did really, i had scans, blood tests etc about 2 and a half years ago which found i had pcos, and was not ovulating.

I was prescribed 4 rounds of clomid last year from 50mg - 150mg but still did not ov, i was given ovarian drilling on the 9th of this month and asked if i could start on clomid again as it is meant to be more effective after the drilling, my fs told me that rules have changed now and im not entitled to any more help on nhs but after i moaned quite a bit he agreed i could try clomid one last time in 4 months as my treatment started 2 and a half years ago

He also said that rules and funding has changed a lot for all types of fertility testing and treatment.

I think these rules are so black and white and would try and get it looked into further as you have had medical problems. I understand i have a DD and i can only get so much on the nhs but what about my DH, does this mean he has no rights to his own child because i have one. He has paid his tax and NI all his working life and i think each case should be assesed individually

my point being that its obviously not your fault to the medical problems you have had and they should atleast be investigated so you have some idea where to go from here.

I hope you manage to get it sorted hun :hugs:

My friend's going through the same thing, and it's really upsetting her. Her GP explained the reason is that they have to give women who haven't had any children at all priority and due to very limited funds in the NHS, particularly at the moment, the view is that if a women has already had a healthy child but they want more, they are expected to go private because 'at least they have one'. The GP said that if they start funding secondary infertility all over the country, the waiting lists for girls who haven't conceived at all will double.

So basically, she's now saving so that she can go private, bless her.

although my situation is slightly different its still quite similar, my partner and i have been trying for a baby for nearly 5 years we finally gotpregnant in december 08but then miscarried in feb 09 and still hav been unable to concieve since, now the doctor wont send us to a specialist just to get checked because we were able to concieve (even though it ended) which obviously is heart breaking good luck hun xx

Thank you Ladies for all your replies.

I fully understand that those who have fertility issues that do not already have children is a priority. I mean i would be devastated.

I know that before the depo and my CIN3 results that i did not have any issues. Its just confusing and frustrating knowing why im not conceiving (well i think its the depo) and i cant do anything about it.

I am going to write to the PCT but i think their answer will be the same as my doctors and atm private funding isnt really an option as all our money is being ploughed into saving to buy our own place.

I wasnt fully told about depo. I told my doctor that after i m/c at 11 weeks i just wanted my body to rest for a few months and he suggested depo. Little did i know that he wouldnt rectify what it did to me. Ive only just moved down to West Sussex from London and my old doctors were preparing me for my 21day bloods etc, so to move down here has been like a kick in the teeth.

I hope i haven't sounded like a spoilt brat, because that wasn't my intention. I know people are in worst circumstances than me and i do have two gorgeous daughters, so in theory i should be grateful for what i have (and believe me i am).

But is it too much to ask for one more???

Thank you again for all the replies xxxxxxxxxx

ah hun everyone deserves to be happy and vent if things are going wrong for them, i hope you manage to move forward with all this, we are all in different circumstances but we all have dreams and desires to be pregnant whether for the first time, second or more and shouldnt feel bad for that. gl to you :hugs:

Hi yep i know what you mean about the depo shot i was actually offered that after my little girl was born last Aug however it was explained to me with regards to fertility i was advised that it can take up to 18 months to conceive again and although i wasnt planning on another that quickly i just thought no thank you anyway i wonderin if the fertility aspect is explained in detail to everyone if not like yourself then thats really wrong hope it happens soon for you xxxx

you could change your GP and ask for another opinoin or be asked to be referred to a different hospital in a different health authority.

I am aware than the NHS will not fund IVF/ICSI/IUI for women with a child already but your GP could orgnanise day 1-2, day 21 bloods, an ultrasound scan and your husband's semen analysis NO PROBLEM

I'd ask him why he won't do that...... that's nothing to do with hospital funding!!!
good luck and :hugs:

Hey,
I've been looking into this for us, because we're not far off a year of trying... Think our GP might do tests for me, but pretty sure we can't get IVF treatment on NHS and they might not even do any tests of my OH cause he has a 16 year old son. We've been together 11 years, married 2 and been trying for 10 months. I looked into our PCT but think every one of them says no fertility help for those who already have children...
Think I'd write to them anyway.
Could you look into private?... x
