Maybe I'm really stupid but I don't want to call her and feel like I'm wasting her time. My midwife is on maternity leave and I saw a different woman yesterday. She was alright, but very... Busy..

Nah! Its there job and they get paid for it, plus you are genuinely concerned about something.

My doctor thinks i am a hypocondriac

They probably get loads of pregnant women calling them up with concerns, they probably wont think anything of it at all.. I'd just call and see what they say, how are you feeling now??

Ive only met my midwife once (despite having 6 or 7 appointments) and I didnt really like her, so I dont ring her. If Im worried I speak to NHS direct or my GP. I would change her, but she wont be there at the birth of my baby, and it would mean changing surgeries, so Im not too fussed, If she was there at the birth it would be a different question.

I finally got the courage up to ring her and she's on maternity leave and I had to ring the labour ward anyway..

I feel bad about calling my midwife because I think of how many other women must call through out the day and all the other stuff they have to do too. I've only done it once because I had some bleeding. The rest of the time I just ask to see a doctor.

I did know a woman though who would call about EVERYTHING. She would be on the phone to the midwife several times a day with questions which would be just basic common sense!

ive never rang my midwife.. or even told her any problems. I feel to embarrassed. As long as my baby is fine i can deal with my problems

xx

Yep. I was having contractions last night and didn't bother calling since I had an appt this AM. I feel bad bugging them.

How do you guys contact your midwife....i never seem to be able to get hold of mine, the number she's given me is the general hospital number where i have to go through an operator before they put me through to another number that just rings and nobody picks up.

Were you having actual contractions, or braxton hicks? And with either one, were they becoming regular? Contractions are something you definitely should call about, no matter if your seeing her the same day hun. My BH's have gotten pretty bad, and my doctor told her that if at anytime I get 6 or more in a hour, I need to call her, no matter if its 2am. Preterm labor is different than calling for heartburn. Not trying to tell you what to do, I just know that when I started having contractions at 23 weeks, I needed to go in ASAP. You gotta be confident in how well you know your body, as no one knows it as well as you. When something doesn't feel right, you have the right to call her anytime. Hope the contractions or BH's have stopped, and everything goes well at your appointment. :hugs:
