I'm only 15 weeks in and already have had two of the worst viruses I've ever had, both requiring time off work and lasting around 10 days each. It's like my immune system had given up...I know it's supressed when you are expecting but I was never this ill with #1...didn't have a single sick day. Maybe the time of year you are expecting can make a difference.

Does anyone have any tips on trying to keep well?!!

not special tips but id be sure to wash my hands often and to keep good hygiene as well as to stay away from those who look or sound sick. right now im still battling strep throat(maybe it is idk) for 5 days now. doctor told me they wont give me anything for it even if it is strep throat unless i was running a fever but i have normal temp ever since my sore throat began. plus no one else has gotten it not even my fiance so its probably just a small infection from sinus? even the ob nurse said strep or not, since im not running a temp, id be fine at home just resting, using throat lozenges and the usual natural remedies until its all gone so thats what ill do!

I have no real advice either just to keep topping up vitamins and fresh orange juice each day. I've been struggling with colds on and off the whole time which isn't helped by ds1 doing the same literally since he started playgroup in September, I feel like its getting beyond a joke now

I'm experiencing the same thing. With my first child, I was never sick through the whole pregnancy. I even worked at a doctor's office and didn't catch anything.

With this one I caught a bad virus in October and have been sick ever since. I have a cough that won't go away and I keep feeling like I am getting a cold although I am not certain if that is just pregnancy rhinitis?

I don't have any suggestions. It might be also that you are exposed to more things due to your other child. I think my little girl brings in more germs and it is hard not to be exposed from her.

Yep me! I've had a severe sickness bug and the worst cold ive ever had that I just can't shake off 100%. I'M not prone to catching everything going around so I definitely think it's due to the pregnancy and my immune system being lowered. Although there does seem to be some nasty things going around at the moment. My DS had a flu and at first it was suspected menigntitis. The doc said its been years since they'd seen such a bad flu.

I think this is a bad year to be pregnant! The flu is so bad right now and there are so many things going around. I work in an icu and people are really sick right now including employees. Of course I now have some sort of bronchitis and can barely breathe in the mornings. I'm prone to illness already and have been surprised I haven't been more sick but I think this virus is going to knock me down for a bit :(

Thanks for your comments. I'm going to the doctors tomorrow hopefully because it's not normal for me to feel this unwell for 2 solid weeks.
There is a huge amount of illness going round where I work and yes nursery bugs don't help either!
Think I might have sinusitis. Just want to feel "normal" again so I can enjoy my little boy's 2nd birthday celebrations next week.
Hope those of you that were ill are feeling better.

Me too! I've been almost consistently sick since the beginning of December. :( I started out with a sinus infection, then I finally started getting better and I got the noro virus flu and now I caught dd's cold! I'm sick of being sick! I've been drinking a small glass of orange juice, lots of water and eating clementines. Hopefully we all feel better soon.

I had to go to the GP today and apparently there is a nasty virus going around this winter, where you can be ill for 3-4 weeks! I went as i'd had the cold for 10 days and had enough.

Your immune system is not suppressed when you're pregnant, it's modified to protect your baby and for organ/tissue remodelling. Although it's commonly referred to be as being tamped down, which implies a downregulation.

Me! Not sure if it's the time of year or spending all day with my two year old at various groups with other toddlers, none if whom have yet mastered covering mouths to cough or sneeze! Certainly did y catch as much when expecting dd1!

Since October is seems like someone in my family has some type of virus constantly! It started off with DS and DH having HFM- which my DH kept for almost 3 weeks! I managed to avoid that somehow, but I've had two horrible, horrible colds in the last month and still have a lingering cough from the last one. Now there is a flu outbreak where I work and I am terrified I'm going to catch that and end up really ill. I've basically decided to be a hermit and not go around many people for awhile!

I haven't *knocks on wood* even when my hubby got sick with a very bad case of strep throat. I thought for sure I was going to be feeling it but nope. I hope all you ladies that are dealing with being sick and not feeling 100% get better asap!

It is interesting, never heard that before. Either way we seem to be more susceptible whether it is a lowered or heightened immune response or a mixture of the two, don't think even the scientists know from what I've read!!
