Hi I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant; I went to the midwife today and when I went into the room and sat down she asked to weigh me..

I've been feeling a lot of hip pain in my right side and a few days ago I fell down the stairs when my leg gave way. I told to midwife whilst I tried to get out the seat leaning on the desk.

She asked if it was my back but I mentioned about the pain in my hip and it going dead for a few seconds.

She said it sounds like Sciatica which is getting worse with what I was telling her. She didn't say anything about what I can do to help it besides taking my time with doing things and stop if the pain gets worse and warm baths before bed.

Which I've been doing and OH came up with a cool plan last night using the double duvet as a sleeping bag on the bed and using the extra duvet to tuck under my bump for the pressure to go which worked last night so hope it carries on working for me..

just wondering if any you ladies have suffered from Sciatica and what did you do to help it ect?
Before I went to the midwife and telling her about all this I though I was suffering from SPD or PGP.. all three are kinda the same besides the Sciatica is down the leg.

Any tips and hints welcome :D

Yea I've had this and it's horrible now. There isn't much you can do. My doctor offered for me to go to physical therapy but I declined. You can look up some stretches online to do that help a little. I use this topical numbing stuff on my back when it gets bad and that sorta helps. It sucks but there isn't too much you can do for it :( I just try to stretch as much as I can when it gets bad. hth.

Thanks :D.. It's usually after I've been walking for a while and then for the rest of the day I've got to have my leg proped by pillows about my hip to make it feel more at ease

sciatitca isnt the same as spd/pgp hun as its a different nerve completely and is a compresed nerve in your spine it can be helped by a trained osteopath or chiropractor re-aligning the spine but this isnt avalible on the NHS so you gotta weigh up is it worth it since it will probably ease after giving birth

I've got it too, it hurt's so much, i usually get the 'twinge' while im at work and once almost just fell flat on the floor with the pain!
My midwife told me to take 2paracetamol every 4hours (without exceeding 8 per day) but when i see her on monday im gonna ask her to write me a perscription for dihydrocodene (not sure, it's written in my notes but very scribbled and hard to read) which she said she would if the paracetamol wasn't helping enough. Only thing is that she said i'll only be able to take it before bed. She also said about sitting down in a proper chair (avoid bucket seats) and a birthing ball is also supposed to help, but i have neither the money or space for one of those. Otherwise, i try and soak my back in a hot bath every day, and try not to lay on my back :flower:

ive got it too.... esp when i get in and out of bed or up from a laying position. im like a 90 year old woman

Mine has gotten a lot worse over the weekend - I even had to sleep bolt upright on Friday night so only go tabout 4 hours altogether. hot water bottles help ease it a bit I find, especially when getting ready for sleep.

:haha::haha: OH says when we do the food shopping or go out for the day he's with his grandma and not his girlfriend due to me walking slow by the end of the day and when we're in the house he's got to help me out of bed or the bath and off the sofa!! haha

The shame he is supportive but makes the whole event all fun and games!

Have you thought of doing online food shopping?
We started at the beginning of the year as i was going out every day to get dinners as there's just too much to do by myself and the nearest big supermarket need's either a car or bus journey to get there. (my OH and i work around each other for lookin after our son)
We get all of the main stuff we need delivered and if we've forgotten anything or run out of anything i'll pop out and pick it up from the shop's, lightens the load which is just what i need right now!!

I've been having symptoms of PGP since Sunday but tbh I think it may just be baby lying on a nerve as its beginning to engage now I've been getting little twinges and pressure down there.

I've had to resort to doing it online thoughout the week but getting out the house is just one thing I want to do everyday! Not been out yet all week & when OH comes in from work i just talk, talk and talk.. He says he can tell it's getting to me without the human interaction with me just rambling on at something I've seen on B&B or a cute toy etc haha :)

Got midwife tomorrow woo to going out but it's boring waiting around!

It's good to get out of the house, but maybe just for a nice walk instead of having to lug shopping home. Do you have any nice parks or anything near by for a nice stroll through? :flower:

To be honest I'm so stupid. We've got 3 parks which are across the road and up the road! The local cemetery is a street away (everyone of mine and OH family are resting there).
I didn't think about it to be honest! Haha

lol, alot of people don't think to go out just for a nice walk. You deff shouldn't be over doing it though, leave the shopping to the men i say :flower:

I had this starting ar around 33 weeks (once baby dropped). Thankfully i happen to be friends with a chiropractor that is able to see pregnant women. They have a special table you lie on that has a hole for your belly :) Ive been going for about 2 weeks now and it feels much better. I don't know if your insurance covers chiropractor visits but in my oppinion its well worth it. Good luck!!
