Hello everyone,

I am 27 weeks and as the baby is growing i am having problem sitting upright for long...the ribs on my left side start paining and i feel as though the baby is pushing up...how do i deal with this...any suggestions. thanks.

I know when my sister was pregnant with one of hers she got the baby kicking up - I'm not aware of anything that they did though. Seek advice from your mw tbh.

dont think much can do, ive had it alot. my midwife said with baby growing bigger starts to take up room of your lungs and pushes on your rib cage, which can become rather painful, maybe try lying down.
probably decrease in pressure and pain once baby goes in to your pelvis slightly.

I agree with Leannes, try lying down and relaxing, I think that is the only way it can help you.

I get lots of pain as well when i sit too long in the office, i would get some kind of sharp pain around my pelvis area when i walk, then it gets better after a while.

Merry xmas!

when i get this, i change postions. not much else you can do!

Thanks ladies for the replies. I feel much better that there are others in the same boat. Nothing much can be done though except for lying down.

Same here, my lil one luvs to push his/her feet up into my ribs on my right hand side, but I find laying on my left side helps relieve the pain from the constant pushing/kicking.

Have you tried changing positions yet? In not try getting on all fours and rocking back and forth to move your lil one...OR you can stand and sway side to side even.

At least you know your lil one is happily moving around. Hope you get a bit of relief soon.

yep unfortunatly lying down is the only solution, i had terrible back n rib aches with my lo, n im sorry to say it only shifts when bubs arrives lol but then you totally forget about it neway lol, good luck hun x

This is fairly common from what I know, as the baby grows bigger, your ribs get pushed up and out which will cause pain.

I started getting this around like 24 weeks and asked my doctor about it and she said it's most likely due to your uterus growing and your organs pushing up into your ribs, can't find anything that quite helps though besides sometimes switching positions

thank god you posted this... i was wondering what that was as well. my ribs started hurting pretty bad around the same time especially when i was just sitting down. i still cant sit down for long periods of time, laying down is a big comfort, when you can...

I had absolutely awful rib pain on my right side at exactly 27 weeks, for some stupid reason I struggled to work and someone there actually drove to the hospital. They gave me blood tests and monitored me etc but found no reason for it except normal stretching etc. It was a killer, moving didn't help and I couldn't seem to sit or lie any way at all. The only thing that helped a little was the odd paracetemol and a hot water bottle I found helped a lot with rest.

I really feel for you- I just wanted to cry with it, particularly when trying to get to sleep with it.

At 33 weeks I had the same pains though not quite so severe on my left, I stayed off work and did the paracetemol/hot water bottle thing and again after a day or two it went- Also don't know if it was coincidence or not but after a particularly severe night I woke up with stretchmarks previously not there! Honest!

Hope it eases for you. If you are worried or concerned at all do phone your midwife asap.

xxxxx
