anyone give baby rice at 14 weeks?

Thanks george baby and jefen i dont mean to offerned anyone but saying stuff like i do it for fun and i do it to shut her up makes me mad im really upset by this comment as id never do anything tovhirt her x

I don't think anyone is meaning to talk to you like you're stupid. People are probably just concerned because all they know is that it could be harmful to wean a baby this early.
It's still your child and your choice and there have been people that replied with positive and negative experiences.
If you're not after advice, just ignore the people that try and give you advice. But remember, it's not always bad to listen to other people, or at least take in their comments and do some proper research about the decision you're about to make :).

I hope you can make a decision that's best for you and your girl :)!

OP Just a suggestion but has ur LO been like this since giving gaviscon? reason I ask is because my LO was prescribed it by the paediatrician for his reflux and I had to stop giving it to him because he'd gone frm being happy to crying all the time, feeding became a nightmare he was hungry but refusing bottle and when he did take some it was in drips and drabs as the gaviscon thickened his feed and he seemed to be in more discomfort.

Im really not saying this to be awful, but as much as you love your baby and wouldnt hurt her on purpose, what some of the ladies are trying to say is that you could be hurting her (insides) by weaning her too early.

I think if you want to continue weaning you should speak to a health visitor or someone to discuss it.

By the way Im not someone who waited till 6 months so dont think Im saying thats the only way,but 14 weeks is a little too young.:flower:

Is there anyway your GP will refer you to a paediatrician with regards to the problems your having with her feeding and they will be able to help you and advise you much more, maybe different meds for her reflux could help? My LO has silent reflux and gaviscon was no good for him at all he is now on ranitidine which is a lot better for him, i found my GP and hv didn't know much about this at all.

I dont think anyone is trying to start an argument hun just trying to give advice,my LO went through stages with milk, maybe she is having a growth spurt or possibly teething my LO was exactly the same at that age she was fighting her bottles but obviously still hungry if I took it away, it will pass soon just persevere with her normal milk and you will find in a couple weeks she should get back to normal, just try not to give the baby rice as it is just empty calories and she really just need milk right now xxx

She never used to b she always was fine with gaviscon its only been since a week and half ago shes been taking less and gets more less each time but she did have 7 oz on her last bottle and that was without gaviscon so hopefully shes picking up her feeds again.can ppl plz stop going on about it now im not carrying it on and im booking an appt at the health clinic on tuesday to speak to a hv about her feeding.

hi she has reflux anyway and is on gaviscon for it so has already been dignosed for that... shes also on size 2 teats has been since 6 weeks as shes on c&g comfort and size 1 was too slow for her.[/QUOTE]

hey there not read the rest of the thread but just wanted to say that my lo has silent reflux and was prescribed gaviscon for it. he had had weight gain issues due to not drinking enough and early weaning was discussed. when we started the gaviscon we were also on c&g comfort and this caused constipation and lo was still not drinking well (we used variflow teats) in desperation at the weekend i gave lo a carton of normal c&g as he was refusing the comfort and he drank a whole carton in a couple of hours...! since then i have kept him on the cartons and today when collecting a new lot of gaviscon i read the leaflet that came with it and it says should not be used with formula that has already had thickener added (ie the comfort!) perhaps try regular c&g before you go full steam with the weaning. i am so glad i changed the formulas as i now know we can wait til 17 weeks to wean which is what HV has now recommended...

Hi shes not teething as when i went docs they checked around her mouth and said she wasnt i know noones starting an argument butcsome of the things ppl have said make me mad and upset xx

Why bother asking for advice of you're going to argue everyone's very valid point???!!

We had, and still have, a reflux baby at 2. Weaning made it all the more horrific tbh. Gaviscon should do the same, if not more, than weaning would. If Gaviscons not working there are many other solutions.

Tbh you just want someone to say go ahead, so you feel better, because you know the guidelines.

Erm clearly u cant read I ASKED IF ANYONE HAD DONE THIS and i argued with the ppl her were being snotty no i dont want someone tosay go right ahead if u read my post probely in the first place u would of seen what i have said so next time i would appeiate it if u kept YOUR opuion to urself clealry u nothing of what i said if u did u wouldent come back with that responce if i wanted advice i would of asked for it there is a difference in asking a question then asking for advice i didnt turn round n say what do think etc etc

....and breathe!

As a mum whos weaned at technically 12 weeks, with Gaviscon as well, I will give you MY OPINION because thats THE NATURE OF A FORUM! :dohh:

You just prooved my point, perhaps taking the advice you have asked for on board will help you make the right decision. But no-ones being snotty, you are getting your back up because you are hearing things you'd rather not want to believe!

Clearly our time to sit down and type advice to you is wasted time and help!

Well im sorry but i posted on here to ask if any one had done it not to b judge by it and as for i havent said showing signs of rediness u dont see her evryday and how she acts and i have said how she acts and i have been to the docter about her not eating so u cant judge me on that. as i stated b4 i have tried everything before i gave her baby rice to get her to take her milk and nothing worked im notgonna force her to take summit she clealry dont want and im not goig to starve her ethier. Its not like i gave her a whole bowl full i am not stupid. Thx for some of the comments as i said i did not ask to b juged as the saying goes mother knows best

Well said hun you do what you feel best , i post things like this and get negativity responses ( sometimes ). I first weaned my first at 4 and a half months and she had such bad reflux and the reflux stopped ! and she was great for it x

Honestly, no.

It's too early her digestive system is immature and giving her BR could do more harm than good.

Up her oz and see how she goes.

H i have tried her on normal milk with gaviscon she was just throwing it up each bottle so changed back the docter and hv know she is on comfort and said this is fine to use with gaviscon.

Ok everyone i think Geminski has had enough now. She said she's only fed her baby rice the one time and she is going to see an HV...

Let's stick to the advice-related comments instead of the opinionated ones now, eh :flower:

Hey Geminski,

I didn't wean early, but I just wanted to say it sounds like your little girl is just taking the amount of milk she wants at each feed? Roughly 4-5oz is a great amount for a 14 week old. Have u looked into different formulas, it may be that she is not getting on with the milk you are feeding her? She may be crying for a completely different reason other than she's hungry, it could be the discomfort from the reflux? If it is, I guess the rice could help with that, but at the same time I wouldn't want to start my LO on solids that early. Hope you get it sorted.

I give my 14 week old 2 tsp of rice cereal to a 6oz bottle every other bottle for reflux
